I don’t judge any one individual who has or wears one, but I can’t stand that I can go to an event and 2/3 of the women are carrying one. There are so many more interesting, stylish bags at that price point, and it seems like the primary virtue of YSL is that it signals to people who don’t know anything about fashion that it’s expensive.
Anyone else with me? Whatever happened to fashion as an expression of individuality? |
|
If you want fashion to be an expression of individuality, you have to make the bag yourself don’t you? Just picking one luxury handbag vs another is hardly creative expression.
This just seems like how a lot of people in a given room are wearing Nikes. We’re all just buying the same stuff at the mall. Only the price tags are different. |
| They’ve always been basic. |
This. I have one, because I like it. I didn't buy it with the intention of being anything but basic. I buy what I like. Sometimes it is something unique and sometimes it is something that 10 other people will have at the same event. I don't really care. |
| I hate the giant YSL logo |
That's not fashion, that's craft. |
Agree. They are the poor woman's Chanel 11.12 |
| I have the Niki and I hated it then realized how absolutely useful she is. My workhorse. |
Yeah, one step up from those hideous coach bags. |
| Cheaper than Chanel or Celine but still rocking a logo. We all know. |
|
They give off LV Neverfull vibes.
|

Totally agree with the others here - they're like Coach circa 2005, or LV Neverfull in 2015.
They kind of scream, "I'm so excited I spent 3K on a bag!" which might make a person seem rich in some crowds, but definitely makes her kind of pathetic in others (crowds that are either richer or more fashionable - I definitely don't think you have to spend money to have style). |
| Ew, OP. |
| The only YSL I like is Le 37 YSL Bucket Bag |
|
They've been popular for at least 10 years now, so I suppose that in itself makes them basic.
That said, maybe people find them functional and like them. Nothing wrong with sticking with what works for you. |
