For some reason, I find the term "DMV" extremely cringy. It feels like it's for the kind of people that listen to those mindless Top 40 radio station shows in the morning.
No one in a nice part of DC, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, or Arlington would use this term, would they? |
Yeah. |
I think that associating people who work hard for a living with "cringey" is despicable. Wherever you live isn't "nice" if people talk like that. |
Good thread on this here: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/811816.page |
My secret vice Sirius Radio channel uses it. BTW Luke Combs' Fast Car is amazing. Took me back to the 80s. Didn't have to live and die that way.
But I say DC Metro Area. Or DC area. |
What the hell? Luke Combs' Fast Car???? |
What’s wrong with people who listen to radio? I am not sure I get this question, I live in McLean and couldn’t care less how others refer to this area. Also, a lot of crooks and cringey people live in Chevy Chase, Bethesda, McLean, Arlington etc.. Ask me how I know… |
Yes. It is the remake that reminds PP of the 80s. It is not the original version, but the new one which is responsible for the nostalgia. Read it again. |
Nobody used DMV when I lived there 1991-1998.
I had to be convinced it was a real thing and this board has gotten me to write it. It's convenient but does sound a bit tacky. |
It’s a term for noobs. |
I was born in DC and raised in Arlington and the only time I've ever said DMV is when I needed to go renew my driver's license. |
Third generation native.
Would never say that term. |
Wow, check your racism OP.
Because DMV is frequently used in the black community, I guess that makes it “cringey” for you. |
I’m just sad that Larla is used as the DCUM name, when Delmarva rolls off the tongue so much more elegantly and is more appropriate for the region!
Old fat white lady who lives in DC and I guess I say or type DMV occasionally. But not that often. I may say “this area”, around DC, etc. I don’t know. I’m not giving traffic or weather reports. |
It’s a new term |
