| My son is getting a cast on his right arm tomorrow and I am not sure if Kaiser Permanente does water resistant cast. If not, can someone please suggest some recommendations. He is going to be at a campy by himself, so he would need something that he can easily wear/remove by himself. Any help appreciated. |
| Even if out of pocket pay for the waterproof if kid going to camp. |
Thats the plan. My worry is what if they don't offer waterproof cast. |

My kid broke her arm twice, two years in a row, almost to the day of May 26 or so. So right before summer. We used this one and can attest that not a drop of water gets in it. But it's sort of difficult to get on and off and might need a bit of assistance just because it's so airtight, and I think they recommend that you not wear it more than half an hour without taking a break.

| Kaiser don’t offer a waterproof cast, but if you buy the materials they will put it on for you. The cast covers work ok but no way will he be able to put in a water tight one himself. I also wouldn’t submerge them. |
Where can I buy the materials? Please help. We need to get one before 9am tomorrow. Thanks |
Sorry I only found them online. Orthocasts.com - they shipped it fast but obviously not quick enough for tomorrow. When you are there tomorrow let them know that you want to switch it out for a waterproof cast asap and they will confirm that they can do it (not all the techs are familiar with it, so best to work out in advance, though having gone through this multiple times the waterproof material works and is put on exactly the same way as a regular cast) and that your doctor is comfortable with it (my kid’s ortho wanted him to wait a couple of weeks first). Then arrange to make an appointment to switch out the cast for the waterproof one as soon as you have the materials. There was no issue with doing this for my kid and they didn’t even charge us a copay. You just need an appointment with the orthopedic technician. Good luck! |
| Pp above again, my experience was last year so it’s possible that waterproof casts are available now at Kaiser, but I doubt it. |
| Pay for the waterproof cast. It’s more expensive, but so worth it. |
Probably not. They are all about giving the cheapest possible care. |
Thanks, does this work for teens? He is 16, almost 6 feet tall. |
Yes, you just need more tape for larger arms. They sell kits and are helpful if you aren’t sure what you need. |
