MCAP Scores for 2022-2023

Anonymous
We just received MCAP results for 2022-2023 in the mail yesterday, Friday, May 24th. The letter is dated October 2023. I was so confused because I thought they were timely scores for this year, then I saw the dates and realized my child didn't take MCAP in high school (this year).

The language on the scores says "Ask your child's teachers: What do you see as my child's academic strengths and areas for improvement? How will you use these test results to help my child make progress this school year?" "This year" was over 11.5 months ago.

These are egregiously late. Was it just late for us? We did move and our child is now in 9th grade in a different MCPS pyramid, so perhaps it was lost. If not, I get that these things happen, but if this is happening across the board why not issue an apology or explanation or change the letter date?

Worse, MCPS had the reports over the summer. Apparently, it takes 11 months to stuff envelopes.

I would contact MCPS, the BOE, and the state MSDE to find out when this year’s reports will be available and to request that they email you a pdf.

This is the person in MCPS: Donna_M_Blaney@mcpsmd.org
You will need to be persistent, and to let her know you are checking with the state and BOE as well.

We just received scores from last year, and DC did not switch schools.

It's not an MCPS test. This is something that state is responsible for.

MCPS distributes he results and has had them since the summer. Ms. Blaney is the supervisor in the office that distributes them.

It's ridiculous. I had my kid repeat algebra in 2021 because it seemed from grades he didn't get the content via remote learning. Come to find out 11 months later that he was part of the 10% of kids that passed.

Yep, same. Beyond ridiculous.

Those who still haven't received scores? If they put a call out to recruit volunteers to stuff envelopes if that's where the hold up is, surely hundreds of grams and gramps would sign up to assist! Come on MCPS, think.

Why were the grades low? Work not done? Low trst scores from online tests?
How low was the grade?
Was it level 3 or level 4?
Passing can still be shaky.
