Infertility Support and Discussion
| With my first natural cycle IVF, the embryo stopped growing before the transfer. With the second IVF, the embryo looked perfect, but no pregnancy occurred. I am wondering how many on this board have failed IVFs with the MF? |
| I have 2 failed NCIVF's, one failed stimulated IVF and one failed FET...MF issues here. All great looking embryos, just nothing implanted. |
| My 1st IVF cycle had to be stopped because no sperm could be found on the day of egg retrieval to fertilize the eggs. Second cycle was successful and I am currently 6 months pregnant! We had to wait a few months before we could try again until enough sperm could develop to perform ICSI. We also froze a sample to have as a back-up in case the same thing happend the day of the egg retreival. |
| Poster 12:49, what is the doctor's opinion re: your multiple IVF failures? |
|
We were diagnosed with poor morphology MF. 1st fresh cycle failed (great embryos, failed to implant). 1st FET was successful (5mo DS). 2nd FET failed (chemical pregnancy). Now moving on to 2nd fresh cycle.
Wishing you luck! |

Poster 12:49 here...Right now, my RE is just chalking it up to bad luck mainly. I want my RE to look closer at me but he seems think all is well on my end. I was a little over suppressed during my one stimulated cycle from the Lupron and I had to play catch up in the end which might have effected my egg quality (my eggs were slow growing and took 6 days to grow to blasts) so my RE is switching protocols for my next cycle. But he hasn't discussed donor sperm or anything like that with us yet and my husband has mild MF issues.
If I were you, I would forget the NCIVF and move onto stimulated. It gives you more options...if one egg doesnt look good, you always have others to look at. |
| When you all say MF, what do you mean? Low count or some other way of identifying problematic sperm? |
| By "MF" I mean poor morphology and motility and below average (less than 20 million) count. |
Where did you do your regular IVF? Also, have you done the testing (like biopsy of your uterine lining, hormones)? Wanted to list more tests, but don't remember what all of them were. |
| DH had morphology problems. It took us 2 stimulated IVFs, second worked. |
| My DH has decreased motility and poor morphology but we were successful with our first natural cycle IVF, but we have not been as lucky for dc#2. |

I did my stimulated IVF at SG. I've been begging my RE to do a uterine biopsy but he doesnt feel I need it (biopsies don't tell you much except maybe if you have cancer) plus after speaking with several REs plus my OBGYN, it seems like uterine biopsies are not really done that much anymore. My OBGYN said she didnt even learn about them in medical school. I guess its becoming more obselete amongst some physicians. I could also pay hundreds of $$ to have my blood tested for various antibodies at clinics like Cornell, CCRM or SIRM (I don't know any REs around here who will do these tests, mine won't bc he said women with antibodies can still get pregnant) but there is no RE or anyone else around here who will treat me for the antibodies even if I have them. I dont see the point of spending the money and freaking out over the results. Honestly, just get more aggressive with your treatment (forget that NCIVF stuff, it has such low success rates) and keep in mind that all this IVF stuff is really a numbers game. I know plenty of "healthy" women who dealt with MF issues who did IVF 3-4 times before it worked. No reason for the failures, it just didn't work. We are naturally not very fertile people by nature even when TTC the normal way. |
| My husband has low motility. We were successful on our second fresh IVF cycle at Shady Grove. Good luck! |
| We have 2-3% morphology and a count of anywhere between 1 and 4 million. 1st fresh cycle failed but our FET was successful and resulted in twins. On a side note - since then we have also had two spontaneous pregnancy surprises - one unfortunately miscarried at 12 weeks but our second surprise is now a month old. |
| I think we had 4% morphology. First IVF-ICSI worked. 1 FET failed. The more I read these boards, the more I realize how difficult it is to predict success be it male/female or combined issues. Best of luck to you and your growing family. |
