I agree that the role of a father is soooo important for children! Dads in today's society are underappreciated and are made to feel like they are not even needed.
I don't think that Jennifer Anniston's intent was to proclaim that we don't need fathers. I think her point was that it is possible to raise a child on ones own. However, I wish she would have stressed the fact that being a single parent is extremely difficult and not exactly ideal. |
Children need two parents, a mother and a father because each has something different to give to a child. There was a time, not so long ago, when having an illegitimate child was frowned upon. Just because women can go to a sperm bank, have a one-night stand, or even a long term relationship does not mean they should choose to deny a child a father.
I cannot imagine what my children would be like if they did not have their father as a role model. Flame away. |
Yeah, we did this 20 years ago. Back then it was Murphy Brown v. Dan Quayle. The American family is falling apart, yadda yadda. I'm a father, and I think that we are important, but everyone has to find their own way in this world. |
who cares what Bill O'Reilly says? |
Ditto. People that argue about the necessity of fathers seem to forget the most important part is that he's a GOOD parent. Not just that he exists. Not everyone had the luxury of great parents. I won't speak to my mother until she leaves her husband or until he dies. It was that bad. |
I'd rather have single Jen for a mom than a married Bill O'Reilly for a dad. |
Why? Because you don't like his politics or do you have conclusive proof that he is a bad parent. How much do you know about Jennifer Anniston that makes you believe she would be a good parent? |
No, I salute you! |
I'm sure it's almost never about actively 'denying' a child a father. If a woman can't find a mate she thinks will be both a good partner to her and a good father to any kids, why have him in the mix? You must think it's really easy to find an emotionally healthy man who would be a good role model for your child. If you did, great! Not everyone can. It's better to have a healthy, stable, loving home of whatever composition than build a dysfunctional one first just so you can hear your child say Daddy. |
Jennifer Aniston can probably be a single mom without much deleterious effect on her child.
Some random woman making $50-80k a year, not so much. Money sure can paper over lots of things. |
And that's just the problem! People are going to get the message from Jennifer Anniston that raising a child on one's own is so easy and having an emotionallly stable father is not necessary. But unfortunately, it's not just going to be sucessful and mature women who get that message. Young teenage girls are going to hear that as well. And though they aren't running to the sperm banks, they might be thinking twice about using protection when having sex. After all, it's no big deal if they get pregnant, right? They don't need a man/husband in their lives to have a baby. (And yes, people actually think like that.) |
Are you absolutely sure that you are emotionally stable? I have to ask why you choose to have an intimate relationship withsome one you know to be emotionally unstable. No man is that good in bed! |
Now you're just being ridiculous. |
what are you talking about? |
