Nike Showcase - NLF

What do we think about it? Understanding it is a money grab, like all of them, how honest does Cabell pick the teams? My hunch is ML kids get the benefit of the doubt, cause that is who is putting money on his table. I assume every city is operating the same way as CM does, or no?

Correct. CM will take care of his own regardless of talent! You need not be naive and try out at your own risk (money lost)! Chalk it up as a way to size up the competition in your area and do the best that you can! It is what it is and you just have to weigh the options if it is worth $225 lost plus time. But i do believe some have no business being there. If you are not a starter on a top club team or significant minutes on a private school team or "the man" on a top public save your money! The only take 25 players! Then you have to pay more to play the tournament.

But CM is only the General Manager and not a coach. So everyone gets a fair shot! It saids on the email they sent out!

Madlax does not own Nike Nationals. They only manage, market, conduct tryouts, hire coaches, get the DMV ready.

What could go wrong?

I assumed the coaches listed for each age group decides who makes the team.

I am pretty sure that post was sarcastic.

They have some say but not the majority. It is possible it could be a little more competitive and realistic in the 2026 year but for the younger teams it will be CM calling the shots.

I actually believe that CM wants to win. It doesn't help his brand if the DMV teams lays an egg. That said, if they're trying to choose between a ML player and a player from another club who both appear equal in the tryout, they're going with the ML player as a known commodity.

These things are mostly predetermined anyway. The coaches already know who the best players in the area are (especially as they get older). The tryouts are just another way for the organizers to make money.

I was at the 2028 tryouts tonight and was underwhelmed. Numbers were low and at least 75% of the kids had MadLax helmets. Where were the good DCE and NL players?

Off topic-but what about summer madlax capital team tryouts? Do those rosters actually change?

There were a couple good DCE and NL players. But yeah, I’m sure most were at practice

Probably because they know CM is running it.

He is running it and anyone that thinks otherwise is foolish. How did it go for all those non Madlax players? Pretty sure it went like this. "You are a great player in the dmv, register, check in, play some bad games, get email you are cut and watch the worse player or same player make it." You also lost $225. Does everyone understand now?
