DC DGS Director Delano Hunter should be fired if Wilson Pool doesn't reopen in May

That doesn’t sound very welcoming, equitable and inclusive.

Are you presuming that Frumin will actually try to hold someone in DC government accountable? Good luck with that.

+1. Unless the director is a cis white male, it’s not really equitable or inclusive to fire them.

He's not the Director anymore. They have a new director. Apparently, the issue is with parts.

If my expectations weren't already rock bottom, I'd be amazed at this as well. If the problem is 'parts', then they made a mistake choosing whatever HVAC they need to repair.

Why not close DGS and hire private contractors? We have plenty of construction firms in this city.

OP here. The Wilson pool is still closed. No opening date in sight. Fire this incompetent guy. Latest message from Matt Frumin:

Dear neighbors,

Below is an update from Councilmember Matt Frumin regarding the status of the Wilson Aquatic Center:

I share residents’ frustration that the Wilson Aquatic Center has still not reopened. My team and I have been in frequent contact with DGS and DPR leadership to press for transparency and to get the pool open and operating reliably as soon as possible.

While the extensive work to replace the HVAC system and other necessary facility maintenance is complete, a leak was discovered when the pool was being refilled. DGS has assured me that repairs are underway and proceeding as quickly as possible. Here is the statement the department released earlier today:

“The Department of General Services (DGS) and the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) share your desire for the Wilson Aquatic Center to reopen immediately. While in the final stages of pre-inspection duties, a leak was discovered during the pool refilling process.

Plumbing repairs began yesterday morning to ensure the pool remains functional after reopening. Once completed, we will promptly refill the pool and conduct necessary tests to ensure everything is in proper working order.

We recognize the Wilson Aquatic Center's importance to our community and are committed to reopening it promptly after the repairs are completed. While we don't have a definitive reopening date, please know that both DGS and DPR are working diligently to resolve these issues as quickly as possible.

We will keep you updated on any developments regarding the reopening of the Wilson Aquatic Center.”

I do not doubt DGS’ efforts to get the pool repaired nor the challenges created by deficiencies in the original construction of the aquatic center. Still, we have been told numerous times that the facility is close to reopening. I will visit the pool tomorrow and each day next week to track progress and will press DGS for an update if a reopening date has not been announced.

I look forward to this important community facility being reopened soon and to seeing neighbors on the pool deck.

LOL. Frumin is so inept.

I don't blame Frumin alone. No council member is interested in providing oversight. It's easier to pass new bills than to examine what the government is doing.

Doesn't some council member want to stick it to the mayor with a hearing?!

Even the old Soviet Union functioned better than the D.C. government. In DC we pay first world taxes for third world-quality services.

At least he’s focused on pickle ball. Pools, maybe not so much.

This is pretty nuts. It's been closed for like 2 or 3 years now... I get the whole contractors who tell you 2 weeks and it takes 2 months. But over 2 years???? WTF?

If it was in Ward 5, 6, 7, or 8 sure. But in ward 3? A good half of the city just laughs and says shouldn't get priority ever.

Sure but that’s why no one would get Ward 3 votes if they ran against the mayor!

Frumin has blown what little political capital he had on bike lanes. Meanwhile existing infrastructure deteriorates and the apartment buildings are getting packed with homeless and drug addicts. It’s completely dystopian.
