Richard Montgomery or Rockville?

Anonymous
Hi, we're planning on moving to Rockville in a few weeks during the summer, and one of my kids is about to graduate middle school soon. We're planning to go to either RM or Rockville for the high school that we're planning to move to. Do you people generally prefer RM or Rockville in terms of athletics, education and graduation rates?

I've lived in MoCo for 40 years and I never knew there was a Rockville High School.

RM has kids that feed in from Julius West. JW has problems with bullying, violence etc that have impacted RM.
I would choose Rockville. It’s also a smaller school so feels more personal.

RM

Oh boy. 40 years? Talk about living in a bubble!

RM is a lot bigger and probably has a wider range of class offerings due to the established IB program there.

For a competitive sport, it's probably easier to make the team at Rockville due to the school population being smaller.

My kids are at RM, and we've been happy. I also know families who are at Rockville who are happy there.

Rockville also has a long established IB program. It's a much smaller neighborhood school.

What do you value more? If it's a bigger size, bigger athletics program and high-performing academics, RM is probably better. Rockville is going to be a safer, small, more tightknit experience.

Agree with RM being bigger size and bigger athletics with more available advanced classes as a result of the competitive IB program. On the other hand, Rockville might be more attractive to someone who is looking for a smaller, tight-knit community. One can certainly shine academically at Rockville though. There's also an IB program that is open to everyone there. Bottomline, it depends on what your family is looking for. One thing to consider- there's only one middle school (Wood MS) that feeds to Rockville HS so many of the Rockville students have attended middle school together (even elementary) and will likely have a close group of friends already coming into 9th grade.

There is no question, Rockville HS is smaller and more tight-knit. Most of the kids there have gone to elementary and middle school together.

My kids went to RM. I would send my kids to either though. I think size is a big differing factor. RM also has an IB magnet which neighborhood kids can join in 11th grade. My kids were not interested but it is a strong point to some.

Look at houses see what you find.
