GAINED two pounds but now fit into those shorts?

Anonymous
Just a month and an half ago I couldn’t button a pair of summer shorts. I’ve really been focusing on diet and exercise because I don’t want to buy new clothes! I was down 4lb. This morning I was up 2lb from those 4lb but somehow the pants fit! How does this make sense.

You have replaced some fat with muscle

Muscle weighs more than fat.

The muscle/fat thing and also, more specifically, you've lost some abdominal fat, likely in favor of some leg muscle.

Exercise and eating well can transform your body without losing any weight at all, sometimes you even gain, but you look and feel better. That's why focusing on the scale to the exclusion of everything else isn't very productive.

Thanks for your replies! I was just shocked! I hadn’t taken measurements but I will now. The scale is a liar!

Sigh. No it doesn’t. It takes up less space. It weighs the same.

2 lbs is also easily water weight. You can easily fluctuate more than 2 pounds during the day.

Are you saying a specific volume of fat weighs less than an equivalent volume of muscle? Isn’t that the same thing as saying muscle weighs more than fat? I’m confused! I’ve always heard this and believed it. I mean, a pound of feathers weighs the same as a pound of bricks, sure, but we would still say feathers weigh less than bricks since an equivalent volume of each would be very different weights.

I go up or down five pounds just based on my menstrual cycle.
