Is it just me or has teacher turnover gotten really bad at TJ? I feel like every year they release a whole list of teachers leaving and my kid says that it’s mostly actually good teachers departing the school. What is going on? |
It’s everywhere, OP. The entire teaching profession is bleeding good teachers. If they’re going to work that hard, they’re going to go find jobs with a better work life balance, or more money. TJ is not unique in that. |
Where do they go? Retirement or private schools? |
Many teachers are leaving the profession. |
They can get paid a lot more from private firms than FCPS offers. |
This. There are still a slate who are retiring every year, which is normal, but there are a few teachers who leave TJ and leave teaching altogether, believing (largely correctly) that it's the best possible place to be a high school teacher. The number of concerns that you genuinely do not have at TJ that you have in almost any other teaching job would blow you away. Either way, what you are seeing at TJ is not abnormal or unique to TJ. |
but probably have to work more than 150 days and also miss out on automatic increases, and that fat pension |
Fat pension? What teacher, who is still currently teaching, is under a plan that provides a fat pension? 150 days? That would be nice. I work 6 days per week for 42 weeks and usually 3 days per week for an additional 6 weeks. That adds up to approximately 270 days. Don't most people work around 250 days per year? |
I don’t find that convincing. Teachers at TJ had to deal with cheating and stressed-out kids, and now they also have to deal with pressure not to give bad grades to less qualified students that FCPS leadership wants to look good, lest it call the recent admissions changes into question. It’s like teaching in a fish bowl compared to a lot of schools. |
FCPS definitely wants to make people think everything is business as usual at TJ. |
I'd heard staff turnover at TJ is way down since they addressed the cheating and toxicity issues. |
Are you joking? The cheating is way up within the school. |
Cheating is ridiculously widespread. Not only on tests but projects. Teachers are unwilling or unable to tackle the problem. Very unfair for the honest kids. |
Dream on |
That troll is spending days massaging bad news for FCPS. They claim that low ranking is actually a good thing, kids taking remedial math are better in math than kids with advanced math, and now more teachera leaving TJ is a good thing. |
