Can we use this space to demystify club soccer team ranks/colors?
We're in MD, so looking for: Bethesda, Potomac, PPA, etc... I've seen these threads for years past but thinking they might be different now. |
| What are you talking about? |
boys or girls? what age group? Also, i believe they have the information on their websites. |
Like 2008 Bethesda blue plays in X, etc... Honestly? |
No, they don't. |
|
As someone who started this last year, what a PITA it was (still is) trying to figure all this out... I'm slowly getting there, but a clear list/explanation would have been great. Most (any) of the clubs do not post this info on their websites.
|
yes they do. how about this? https://www.bethesdasoccer.org/boysteams/ |
I don't think that clubs want kids to know that Arlington violet is the third team and Arlington purple is the 5th when they are looking at offers. It's the same reason that some clubs slot in academy or pre-ECNL above their current scheme. The kid sees the offer to what they think is the top team, but it's really the second now |
And potomac's is at the bottom of the page: https://potomacsoccer.org/travel-soccer/boys/ |
| Question: how does “Pre-ECNL II” work for teams that use this designation? Are those second teams playing in the pre-ECNL league or in NCSL? |
|
PPA Parent here. Color order is:
Green Blue Orange Yellow (for some age groups there might also be a red team) |
NCSL |
Pre ECNL II teams do not play in the ECNL league, but those players can guest play for their primary ECNL teams. At U13 and up, pre ECNL II often play in a league above NCSL, but below ECNL, like EDP. ECNL II teams work to develop the players to get to ECNL and have guest playing opportunities, especially at tournaments. ECNL II teams and GA 2 teams are for kids who have potential to get to the 1st team and it’s also a marketing gimmick to have quality players stick around (as they are on a designated ECNL team in paper) and not leave the club. But those 2nd teams won’t actually play in ECNL or the GA league. |
Thanks, OP here and this is what I wanted. Keep it going for other clubs. It's so incredibly confusing and doesn't stay the same from year to year. What I knew in 2018 is not the same anymore! |
So Bethesda does. And it seems that they are hierarchically ordered, but how can one be sure? There are other clubs besides Bethesda. |
