Do you worry about injuries?

As parents, do you worry about the injuries your kids have/will experience? In addition to concussion, there are other injuries that may impact lifetime health, e.g. knee injuries, hamstring injury. Do you think it worthwhile for kids to risk that to play soccer?

Or if you are a high level athlete yourself, you may experience pain or need physical therapy after your soccer career, do you regret?

Kids heal. Concussions are the only thing I worry about. Maybe teeth too.

As the parent of a goalkeeper, we definitely worry about injuries. DC has experienced broken fingers, a broken nose, a shoulder separation and worst of all, two concussions. It’s a very physically demanding position especially as they age.

I have three kids who have all played soccer since the were three ... they are now 17, 15 and 14. The oldest played on both his club team and his HS soccer team last year and this year. He injured himself ONCE in all that time. His coach was amazing about helping him rehab and he was back on the field quickly. He is going on to play soccer in college next year.

My daughter got a concussion at the beach when knocked over by a gigantic wave. Injuries are a part of life. I don't worry about them any more on the field than I do for any other activity.

I was worried about ACL tear and it became a reality. If you have a daughter, the likelihood of a torn ACL is very high especially once puberty hits.

Hadn't generally been too worried about injuries, but two of my daughter's teammates have had season-ending injuries during games in the last week, so ... now it's a bit more front-of-mind. Not much you can do about it, though, the tradeoff of avoiding injury risk would be to stop playing, which doesn't seem worth it.

no i don't worry. Injuries are a part of sports, heck they're a part of any physical activity at any time. Everyone in the history of playing sports has suffered some sort of injury - nothing can be done about it. I can't spend my time worrying about what might happen because then i wouldn't get anything done.

Constantly, if DS gets another concussion we are done with contact sports.

Concussions and ACL are my two main concerns. So far so good but they are only in middle school and it’s about to get a lot more physical.

So far our 4 club years across a couple of years have only resulted in one broken arm.

No I don't worry about any more than I worry in general. Injuries can happen anywhere. My soccer player is only 10 but has never been injured playing. He has been injured on the playground, at the beach, riding his bike, falling down the stairs, living normal life though.
