Target pride collection

Anonymous
There's an article today about how Target is scaling back its annual Pride collection, and will be offering it in fewer stores this year. I always like this collection mainly because I love rainbows! I'm all for gay rights and support Pride, but I buy the stuff as a straight woman because it's always so cheerful and pretty. They haven't released the products yet, but here is the announcement, which has a picture of a really cute bag and a dress:

I think I would like the dress better if it were at-the-knee instead of so long -- wonder if they will have a shorter version.

It's sad, but right-wing America is unhinged. I remember the completely insane "reviews" being made on kids' clothes last year because God-forbid the boy's t-shirt was in pastel without a dinosaur.

And that rainbow cake mix was amazing. We saved a box for my 8 year old daughter's birthday, and she was thrilled!
Love this collection!

Meh, I found it to be just too much in recent years, and I think using a designer who made Satan-themed items was just a bridge too far for some parents.

It's not like your opinion is valid or matters, though. It's like you think someone cares if you found it "too much."

Ooooohkay.
I’m sure it’s the unhinged RIGHT that made this a huge issue, right?
I mean it’s literal the unhinged LEFT that decided to put the sexuality of CHILDREN at center stage, and then express shock and outrage when this isn’t wholly embraced by the normies.

If it was such a great idea—why isn’t Target ramping it up instead of scaling back?
The dollar is king, and you and I both know that if it had actually been a financial success of an idea, they’d be doubling the inventory and visibility of these in-store displays. But they aren’t.
And it was t due to loud angry “unhinged” protests. The “unhinged right” actually kind of sucks at being unhinged—and they rarely organize and pitch tents in order to rally around a cause. (Mostly bc the “unhinged right” have jobs to go to and are too busy with kids and family and the activities of being a contributing member of society to stage some kind of riot over it.)
So I will concede that you may not like that not everyone wants to discuss sexuality and sexual orientation with children or adorn their kids in special clothing to support your sexually-charged cause, and that’s probably triggering to you. But “unhinged?”—that’s not really the label worn by the right.

They do, though.
Maybe not this ONE poster. But collectively there must have been enough people sharing this opinion that it made the Target execs reevaluate.
Most businesses kind of like to make a profit.
So if they missed the mark, they adjust.
And that sounds like exactly what they are doing.

Genuinely curious, what would it take for my opinion to be valid or matter?

I don't shop at target. I dislike them a lot.

You are sick.

And the "unhinged right" does not have jobs to go to. The toothless cult is dumb as shit. And yes they are unhinged. Putting Trump's crap face on cars, the AMERICAN FLAG, houses, etc. it's a dam cult.

Target lol not a financial decision a blackmail decision.

You are a moron.

Yeah, the article notes they had several BOMB THREATS last year arising out of right-wing dissatisfaction with rainbow gear, so they are cutting back on some stores. My guess is that they'll have as much or more in Maryland, but maybe not so much in Alabama, and Texas will be store by store. That's all smart business probably.

But given that this is the Fashion and Beauty forum, it's weird that this went SO political SO QUICKLY. Since this is the fashion forum, the post was really more -- do you also look forward to Target's Pride collection as a fashion item (rather than as an "identity" item) because rainbows are just so damn fun? I would do my whole house in rainbow-chic if that was more socially acceptable.

That's too bad! I definitely agree it's the unhinged right pushing this. Why can't they just let a store sell shirts with rainbows on it? Why is there so much hate in their hearts? SMDH.

NP. Yes, but your opinion is just as valid. No one cares if you like the cake mix. Target has made this decision based on market research that a lot of people found it too much.

But it does matter. In fact, that’s why target scaled back the collection so much. She shares the same opinion as lots of other people, apparently.

Didn’t they try to do the rainbow thing with Oreo cookies? I remember seeing them at CVS and the cookie was stamped with something or maybe the cream was rainbow can’t remember, but they were priced significantly lower than original Oreos. Taste the 🌈
