3 ONLINE CLASSES OF University of Tennessee

Anonymous
DD is going to be taking 3 ONLINE CLASSES OUT of 5.......................

Why are they still letting kids take online classes?

I won't email the dean or the President or anything anymore because other parents posted copy of the emails on the Facebook Parents page, and everyone is mad... Why do they still have online classes?
PAYING OUT OF STATE TUTION when they are taking so much online classes?

I agree- that's terrible.

In England all college classes are required to be recorded and offered online. A friend said that of 90 students, he has 15 in their seats. Very sad.

So basically these kids are taking classes in their dorms?

Is this the case at other US universities/colleges in 2024?

The students are requesting the recordings so they can allegedly go back and review the more difficult parts. But, some lazy kids use it as an excuse for not going to class.

If schools are offering an online version, then they might also offer an in person version. It’s up to the student choice.

This is pretty common at state flagships, even the more prestigious ones. To be honest, most of the students love it. They have more flexibility to volunteer, join clubs and do internships. Taking an online class while you’re living in the dorms on a vibrant campus is very different than virtual schooling during Covid.

What schools are known for this? I would be okay with maybe one online course, but 3 out of 5 seems like a lot, especially when it doesn't sound like that was the preferred option for OP's daughter.

It doesn't sound like it was the preferred option for OP. There's no information on what the daughter wanted.

OP is saying it’s online ONLY.

DCUM: The South is the future of higher education!

Also DCUM: I can't believe my child at a southern university is doing online classes!

Gennie is out of the bottle, these courses are so much cheaper for the schools.

OP, if you and DC do not like this, then change the course schedule. At a school this size, there are always other options unless every last one of those online courses is a required gateway for the desired major and they are all only ever offered online. Have DC communicate with their advisor - and have DC be willing to take early-morning or Friday classes - and they really should be able to get something different if they want it.

UF does this.

Not at all. Maybe just at large southern schools?
