I wonder whether my critical question about digging up bamboo rhizomes will fade away into oblivion on "off topic". I know I would check a home and garden forum often, since I am always looking for ideas. The problem with not having a forum is that unless the right person is online at the right time, your topic goes off recent topics within a few hours and you may never get your answers.
Just a suggestion. Well, more like a plea. |
Can we also have a yoga forum? And a how to change your car's oil forum? How about a French soft cheese forum? That way if I have a specific question about Camembert it won't get lost on the all too inclusive food forum. In all seriousness and with no disrespect to the OP, DCUM is not Google. If a question is so specific that it has nothing to do with parenting, children, fashion, food or sex maybe it's time to look elsewhere for applicable input. |
OP ignore that nasty PP. I agree with you. I would love to have a home/gardening category. Off-topic is sooo broad. |
But if you want a really helpful answer, I'd try searching on and/or posting on gardenweb's forums. Some truly helpful advice from great gardeners on there. |
Well, no disrespect back, but why does FASHION get a forum? Or TRAVEL?
What do you care if there is another forum? How are you being inconvenienced with my little home and garden forum? The way I see it, it is NOT so esoteric that it wouldn't be important to MOST people (aren't most people always trying to improve their homes, decor, outdoor space, etc), and it allows for me to get ideas from people in the area (such as good landscapers, where to get furniture reupholtered, where to buy furniture for less, etc). Frankly, yoga does have its own forum. Beauty and fitness. Tell me where questions about home improvement, decorating, maintenance, home shopping, resale, etc should go? Maybe I'll just start throwing them onto the private school forum. |
Yet. But, I'm working on it. So, don't scare our users away. I want to create a real estate/home improvement forum and gardening can be included. I made some forum changes over the weekend and I'm watching to see how things shake out from that. Then, I decide what to do. |
Thanks! |
If you look at off topic posts, they're MOSTLY about real estate and home improvement. Here are the posts just on the first two pages of off topic.

She was just joking. Soft cheese is actually an improvement over some of her past ideas. |
Hey now Jeff, that was uncalled for. I'm actually looking out for you. It was you yourself that said this site needs to condense forums, not to expand them into uncharted areas. But hey, it's your castle. Can I just make this one request? If we have a gardening forum or a real estate forum, can we also have a mussels, clams, shrimp and mollusk forum? Or would that be too specific? |
You sound like a rabble rouser. That needs a forum. |
Just want to add my support for a home/garden forum! |
I'm just trying to fit in around here. |
