College laundry services?

Do most colleges have laundry services (wash and fold) these days?

Do your kids use it?

No. Lazy kids will have a hard time away from mama.

There are lots of outside companies.
Dorm Mom is another:

Unless your child is disabled, they need to learn how to do their own laundry. It's an extremely important life skill.

i don't understand parents who pay for this.

kids can do their own laundry. it's part of growing up and managing life.

what else can't your kid do for him/herself?

This. Are you going to continue to find this after they graduate?

Agree. Plus I haven’t heard good things about the services.

My aunt paid for this for her grandsons. One happily used it and one declined. Personally I do my own laundry so I think my kids should too..but if you are a family where it was always sent out then I could see where this seems like a requirement.

I think we toured 1 private school - Tulane maybe? - where you could do it through the school, but at this point most schools have small businesses in the area you can hire.

Wow, I might pay for this service during finals or midterms. But to us, one of the biggest bonuses about having a kid go off to college was they had to do their laundry 100% of the time.

When I was studying for finals, I’d study for 50 minutes and then take a 10 minute break. It was just enough time to take a walk to the laundry room to switch loads. Most college students have lots of time. They don’t need a service for basic life skills.

In college we had a Suds Bar. You could drink while using the laundry mat.

Op here. I’d want to use it for biweekly sheets, towels and blankets.

Otherwise, there’s no way they would be washed (if they came back folded and pressed I think he’d be incentivized to put them on his bed).

I think my kid might end up doing most of his own clothing (he already knows how), but if I could set something up to get the big things washed regularly, I think he would actually change his bedsheets.
