I’ve never actually bought anything from there, but I see it continually recommended here. Yet I’ve never seen a single item that looks flattering, even on the size 2 model! Help me understand.
Is Boden mainly for 45+ and/or slightly overweight women? |
I always thought it was for people with bodies like rectangles. no hips. no breasts. with a bethesda aesthetic. |
This would be me, size 2 (though I have no clue what the Bethesda aesthetic is). I think their prints are hideous, but I've gotten some good quality basic sweaters. |
I used to buy a few cute items every year, for my kid and myself, but stopped last year when a skirt they sold did not come lined, even though it was advertised as such, and Boden did nothing in response to my complaint. The skirt cannot be worn without a liner, so I just bought one. After my purchase, I saw a lot of reviews complain about the same thing. I don't want to support a well-established company that is so lacking in quality control and customer service. You expect that from affordable Chinese vendors on Amazon, not a mid-tier British company.

The quality is terrible. |
Nope. |
If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Your 45+ and fat comment is nasty. |
I think Boden is very hit or miss. When it's a hit, it's great -- dresses with pockets, lined, flattering seams, washable, etc. All the things you would want in life. When it's a miss, it's a weird print with a strange accent, like ruffles that shouldn't be there. I've gotten some really good dresses there and a very flattering swimsuit, but definitely there are some seasons where I don't want to buy anything. |
Are you also the Tuckernuck and Talbot's hater? Let people have their fashion preferences in peace. I'm interested to learn what brands are popular on different sites. It gives me an idea of what kind of crowd is really present on the site. Everyone's free to decide if a brand is right for them after taking a quick look. Why specifically bring up brands to dump on them? |
I think it’s great for office wear. They have stuff that’s actually tailored and doesn’t need dry cleaning. I have:two of their ravello shells which are great under suits and a button down fitted shirt that works well with wide leg pants and nice belt. Their jersey stuff is good quality including their t shirts.
They are basically like what J crew used to be (although I feel like j crew is not recapturing that crown). I am an over 45 and live in bethesda so I’m sure I’m the target you’re denigrating. But much of their stuff is practical work horse for professional women in business casual offices for a decent price point. Honestly I don’t care enough about my coworkers to spend on theory and more expensive brands. I just want something that looks professional enough to justify my salary and that goes in the wash with quality that isn’t going to immediately rip or fade. For me, it is so much better than all the brands that are selling shapeless beige sacks. And I’ve found the quality to be better than some workwear brands like MM Fluer. Someone posted this shirt dress the other day and I thought it was cute and practical for summer wear - https://www.bodenusa.com/en-us/amy-sleeveless-shirt-dress-passionfruit-gardenia-swirl/sty-d0964-lye?cat=C1_S2_G4 I understand the criticism that they aren’t cutting edge fashion but not sure I get the criticism that they aren’t flattering -/ with the range of colors and styles and the tailoring, I think their stuff is more flattering than much of what’s out there. |
No, I’m the tuckernuck hater and I like Boden well enough. I totally agree people should wear what they like … my Tuckernuck post was mostly amazement that what seemed to me a very niche look was posted so regularly in answer to almost any query for a dress. |
Very boxy fit, unflattering on me |
Why would anyone care to “change your mind” about anything? |
I find it really dowdy.
I do have one sweater I like and a bunch of tight long sleeved shirts in different colors, that weirdly, are almost too low (so not dowdy). |
New and inventive ways to come at the humble brag. |
