I started a thread last night asking if anyone here had ever traveled - for pleasure - to Haiti or African countries. And if not, why? I see that thread was deleted. And yet there are multiple threads about the alleged "shithole" remark. Interesting that there appears to be NO ONE who will willingly and honestly answer my question, but plenty of people who want to keep up the outrage about the alleged "shithole" comment.

At any rate I have to laugh at your implication that no one travels to African countries. I have quite a few friends who have traveled to many different countries in Africa and they all loved their experiences. I haven't yet because it hasn't been in my budget, but a lot of those listed above are on my bucket list. You are delusional if you think those aren't places anyone wants to visit. The liberals are focused on allowing in everyone, with the implicit message being that everyone should get a chance. I hear the word "fair" tossed around a lot. And that might work IF we had a system where no immigrant ever gets welfare or taxpayer support at the expense (obviously) of American taxpayers.

But we don't have that. Just over half (half!) of immigrant families are on some form of welfare, and that rises to more than 70% if there are children in the family. Sure, it's best for the immigrants if we support them. But the focus needs to be in what is best, or at least not harmful, to America.

Thus, we need to go to a merit-based system in which individuals are judged on their likelihood to contribute to society, and advance America, rather than be a cost to it. Other countries do it, and we need to. We simply cannot throw open the doors to anyone who wants to immigrate here UNLESS liberals are willing to say that they will never get taxpayer-funded government assistance.

Why do people want the more educated immigrants who will be competing for the high paying jobs with our American college graduates. That makes no sense, either. Do you want the US to end up with real Americans as the underclass and the educated class be made up of immigrants?

Merit immigration based on what industry needs more workers makes the most sense. And according to the farmers, we have a huge hole in the farm worker industry, and according to Trump, in the low skilled service industry, which is why he uses H2B visa workers, and even increased it by another 15K in his first few months in office. Trumpsters keep saying we don't need high skilled workers in areas like high tech.

So, based on what the R business owners like the farmers and Trump and Trumpsters are saying, we actually need more cheap labor than we do high skilled labor.

The funny thing is, I bet most lawmakers from both parties could get on both are with something like this. It makes sense. Whether it will ever happen, who know.
