PP, as part of your sooner than later strategy, have you visited the school during one of the recent open houses? I think you have not, otherwise you'd speak differently.

As the PP said, I truly believe this school is not for you. So I'd suggest that you sooner than later start planning moving to Tenleytown or to Montgomery County or to Chinatown (for Basis) . Or re-do your budget to make room for a private school fees. There's lots of excellent private school in the area, with relatively low fees (Holy Trinity is just a couple of blocks south). Truly, you do not belong to this thread.

I'm an in-bound parent and this is the kind of talk that makes me batshit crazy. It has been a hallmark of Hardy for decades: we do things our way, and if you don't like it, move or go private. Hardy is my in-boundary school, my kids have the right to attend, I have the right to try and change it to be the school I want.

Are those crazy old militant teachers who dislike IB families still around Hardy ?
That's a myth to begin with and it has been addressed on this thread already.

The one who had the "Hope for Pope" sign on her classroom door for two school years is still there, yes.

Who is she? Tell us. If she had that sign, it means she must be proud of her feelings for the old relaxed times..So you will not make her harm to disclose her name.
"Relaxed" times? Under Pope? You don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah, the relaxed times were in the post-Pope era when teachers could openly undermine the principal and not fear any consequences.

You're right, she made no secret of her feelings. It was Ms. Henry, the 7th grade English teacher.

Any of y'all go to the meeting for Key families on Thurs night? I heard a surprising number of Key families were there.

Here's the thing: my IB student had Ms. Henry for 7th grade English, and she was one of the best teachers at Hardy - those kids worked hard and learned a ton in her class. So whatever poster she had on her door was irrelevant to the question of whether she is or is not a good teacher.

Could not make it but would love to hear reports from those who attended.

There are calls to rename schools and civic buildings for Mayor Marion Barry Jr. What about Hardy?

My best guess for next year feeder school kids who will go to Hardy based on several first hand observations:

- Hyde: 25 kids
- Stoddert: 20 kids
- Mann: 4 kids
- Key: 2 kids
- Eaton: 5 kids.

About 10 kids more (or 10% more) of this year.

So still few IB kods considering the OOB numbers at the feeders with the highest numbers. I wonder how/when that will turn around.

Stoddert is closer to JKLM-range for IB% (81%).

The above numbers are completely incredible unless you somehow believe PP has had personal conversations with the Hardy steering committee at five schools. It's possible, but I find this "several first hand observations" thing pretty hard to put faith behind. Mann will be more than 4 kids and Key will be more than 2. I don't know how many they'll be, but it will be more.

The Eaton kids have the right to attend Deal for the next few years and ALL of them are taking the chance to go to Deal. I do not know a single Eaton parent who is planning to send a child to Hardy next year. Some of the parents of younger children are looking into it given that it will be the feeder school in a couple years.
