Trump needs to get his own security. Democrats are trying to remove his right to USSS protection, Myorkas is denying increases for protection, and now there's been an assassination attempt from a rooftop 150 yards from his podium. The Penn state police said that rooftop wasn't part of the perimeter-- what? It's USSS and Law Enforcement's job to CREATE an adequate perimeter. The max effective range on an AR-15 is 600 meters, and they allowed an unsecured rooftop at 150 meters? This cannot be a simple mistake. There needs to be a full investigation and prosecutions for these people who are attempting to clear the path for assassins.

This thread is sad and a true example of how far discourse has fallen in this country. I’m truly appalled at how many people think he staged this. And how many people are quick to make thinly veiled statements that he deserved it. Is this who we want to be as a people?

And I know exactly what these people would say back to me ‘he started it.’ Reminds me of when the republican congress members were shot at in Alexandria and everyone did the same thing. It’s depressing and frankly these people should be ashamed of themselves. They won’t have that insight. But they should.

The FBI said the shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was immediately killed by the Secret Service.

Shooter was a registered republican

Thomas Crooks donated $15 to Act Blue the day Biden was inaugurated.

His father, a counselor, donated $225 to the DNC in 2023.

It seems likely the shooter registered as a republican to vote against Trump in the primary.

That’s not how protection of former presidents has ever worked. Ever.

Listen to the reports. The oversight was clearly on the part of the local law enforcement who attendees described were untrained and inadequate to neutralize the threat, not with the SS.

I am surprised that USSS weren’t able to hustle him off faster. From all I’ve read about and heard from them, when something like this happens, the protectee no longer has agency, they are manhandled away to safety.

I am not second judging the SS following the shooting. I think they did a spectacular job.
The patriotic banner across the front of the stage is actually a bullet proof panel. When the shooting happened, Trump dropped down below the panel. He no doubt has been told to do that. The SS kept him down until they got word the shooter was "down." You can hear it on camera. Then they pretty much wrapped themselves around him just to be safe.
They are heroes.

I know people who live in Bethel Park. I’m going to wait until later and see if anyone I know up there knew the shooter. But I’m not posting what they tell me on here. I’ll be watching the FBI briefings.

Is this a joke? He is the one who has brought the hate. Already forgotten Jan 6th, have you? Leaving office and refusing to welcome your successor. He does nothing but spew hate. Now he’ll be a national hero for reaping what he sowed.
