we’re IB and I know people who returned to IB from charters to get in person seats. I’m not sure what your point is. My point is that the primary equity issue right now is getting all kids back into the classroom.

This is a definition of equality, not equity. Try again.

it is neither equitable nor equal for black kids to be segregated into a form of education (virtual) that **everyone knows** is worse.

I swear, you people trying to leverage racial justice talk to defend school closures are just the worst.

The point the poster was making is that DC public schools are not funded equitably. All they were asking was that you bring this same energy to that fight as the reopening. But thanks for the you peopling

DP. how are DC schools not funded equitably?

HSA’s paying for extra things is just one glaring example.

PP here to +1

Do you mean PTAs?

Look. You are just desperately clawing at any excuse you can to avoid accountability. Until schools are reopened you have nothing to stand on when you claim there are other “fights” that need more attention.

This came up bc someone told me to STFU after bringing up that after schools reopen we should start focusing on improving equity.that’s all.

Beacuse you're purposefully creating a tangent.

Read the article and if you need to beat this other dead horse some more, create yet another thread on it.

she’s not only creating a tangent - she’s (willfully?) ignoring the plank in her own eye. the biggest blow to school equity this century is going to be school closures in urban districts. nothing else even comes close.

My favorite DCUM conspiracy theory! 15 WOTP parents yelling at a message board = the downfall of the urban school system. Miss me with enrollment being down this year; Ward 3 is literally building extra schools to deal with overcrowding

Kids LITERALLY are not in school. Homeless kids. Black kids. Disabled kids. ELL kids. That’s literally still happening this morning - meanwhile bars, restaurants and gyms are opened at full capacity. Only willful ignorance could deny the enormity of this. At a minimum it completely and totally destroys any claim you may make that you have some kind of moral high ground in the school equity fight. But sure, tell me again how rich PTAs are really the problem compared to DC schools being literally unable to get kids into the classroom. Also tell me again how I’m just a “nice white parent” and shouldn’t say anything about the situation, because the people with the true moral authority are the ones keeping black kids out of the classroom.

Can you offer some solutions that you think would be helpful? As someone who works at a school with low demand we could really use your help!

DP. I think you have a lot of work ahead of you trying to reassure parents about the safety and importance of school after scaring them for a year and telling them that school is not essential. A lot of damage to repair.

That the mayor order the end of remote options and require all in-person. On a school level, internalize that the school and teachers communicated it was unsafe, so now you need to do the ground work of convincing parents it’s safe.

This. There must be no virtual option so no one needs to agonize over whether it’s safe to send their kids.

Of course it is. Getting kids back even for a week would be beneficial. You’ve thrown away the entire school year now and don’t care. Now the pressure needs stay on for a normal year in 2021-2022.

Kids could go back for a whole month, and then some could roll right into summer school. You obviously don’t gaf about education so maybe you should go elsewhere.

Am I reading this chart correctly that CMI has NO teachers live instructing on site? So the kids in the building are being taught via a screen?

I do care. I hate this past year’s management. But I’d rather not drag my kid through another transition when we’re close to the finish line. You are holding a grudge at this point. It’s emotional. They aren’t going to be back this school year. You are harming yourself right now fighting that.

My dc showed a dramatic change for the better after 2 days in IPL. Even one month would be of enormous benefit to children who have been at home for over a year.

Hey, I don’t disagree. But it’s also not going to happen.

You may make your own choices. I'm telling you that my kid has benefited enormously from returning even in the first 2 weeks, so you can't just write off a whole month. It's not an emotional grudge - it's disgust and frustration at a system that literally gave up on kids. And it's also tremendously arrogant of you to assume that just because your kid is doing ok, other kids wouldn't benefit. And of course -- particularly with charters that have refused to open AT ALL, it's extremely naive to think that they are going to reopen normally in the fall without significant pressure.

It's not going to happen because parents like you rolled over. Everyone should have fought like h*ll to go back in November.
