How bad is your APS back to school experience?

Yeah - I can't believe some of the crazy crap that parents post with their real name on Facebook, Nextdoor, listservs, etc.

I like it when a well-established loon then endorses a candidate. I don't know what a candidate is supposed to do about that, but . . . McCrazy likes you? Yikes!

Mary has a lot of crazy supporters. I don't know either candidate personally, but I recognize both and their supporters from being vocal on issues over the years. The crazies seem to support Mary.

You mean as opposed to the crazies in APE supporting another crazy (Miranda)?

Who are the other crazy supporters beyond McCrazy?

I’m not crazy about MK, but at least she has experience and isn’t a leader of APE.

So sad. I'm temped to transition her back to DL. What is the point of them being there if the teachers aren't.

This!! First day (and possibly last) for my senior. She texted me “this is horrible. I will not be doing hybrid next week”. Sounds like it’s better for the younger kids but it’s miserable at the HS level.

Ugh. I’m sorry to hear this.

All but one of my sophomore’s teachers are in person. He’s happy, and other parents I’ve spoken to have happy high schoolers too. Not saying your daughter’s experience wasn’t awful, just that the awful isn’t universal at the HS level.

I guess it is just the luck of the draw in how many teachers you get back in person. My son opted for virtual (pre-vaccine) because he thought none of his teachers would come back, and now it turns out that all but one of them are back. Now he's sad he didn't pick hybrid. I called to get put on the hybrid waiting list, and the principal said "we are reassessing capacity and will let you know whether we can accommodate sometime the week of April 5" - no idea what that means, so I guess we wait.

My senior just got home and says he's going back to virtual.

I was really hoping for a different outcome, but I'm not going to force him and I really can't blame him for feeling this way. I just feel sad for him.

Still wondering why Rant Dad didn't join the PTA meeting if he's so concerned...

Meant to add: DS had just a handful of kids in each of the 4 classes he had today. One teacher is still remote. There is no monitor for that class, so for that one he went to a general room with students from other classes and they all sat on their laptops with headphones. He said lunch with the divided tables meant that it was hard to converse with more than one person, and most students in lunch room had their headphones on and weren't talking. Other kids may have experienced it differently of course.

DD says she doesn't want to go back next week since only one teacher is in person. I realized this is luck of the draw. If she had more teachers in person, I think it would have been better for her.

Apparently attendance is taken via the laptop anyway, so no one will notice/care if she doesn't show up in person next week.

So disappointing after being home for a year.

My sophomore was hesitant to return because many friends are remaining virtual. I told her to give it a try and if she hated it we would reassess. She texted me at lunch and said “I really like in person school, I’m glad I tried it out”.

It means no. Just saying.

As a 10th grade teacher this makes me really happy. I’m happy for your kid. We are all trying so hard. I’m glad she’s accepting it for what it is and making the best of it. I don’t know her, but I can tell you we love seeing every single kid in the building who shows up.

My 8th grader at HB Woodlawn is delighted to be back, and was actually sad to be going back to virtual today. The teachers have been fantastic and are obviously really happy the kids are back.
