Did anyone else drink a small amount while pregnant?

Anonymous
Yes.
Every now and then I'd have 1/3rd a martini, half a bottle of beer or glass of wine, etc..
I ate raw oysters and sushi. Spat out anything that didn't taste right.

My kids are at Bronx Sci in NYC, have done respectably well on the SHSAT. Always been well behaved.

As my OB told me then, you don't need to pig out or "eat for 2". Just do more or less your usual and everything in moderation. The problem with the American mindset is that if you told people they could have a little alcohol here or there, they would interpret this as an excuse to booze it up to overdrive.

You mean, on a post that specifically asks about drinking lightly, you’re surprised that the responses are focused on the fact that there is no evidence to suggest that drinking lightly is harmful? I imagine the world is a confusing place for you.

Since you HAVE to drink during your pregnancy, your meter of 'drinking lightly' is probably off.

...except the OP defined her terms in her post. 1/3 of a glass of wine, on five occasions. That’s “lightly” by any standard. You are saying either you didn’t read the first post before plunging in with your judgment boner, or, you think the OP is lying in which case why did you bother responding?

I think most if not all of the drinking pregnant folks in this thread 'think' they drink 'lightly'.

Why do you assume every woman here is such an idiot they don't understand what lightly means? DCUM is made up of primarily well educated and successful individuals. I think you have some internalized misogyny you should examine. [/quote

Wow. Check your privilege. Just because you are so well educated and successful, doesn't mean you are immune to addiction and denial.

You are a troll.

No. But if you are so offended by the possibility of it, means it may be hitting close to home.

Offended by the possibility of what? Your posts don't even make sense. Hence, troll. Just trying to get people riled up. Boring.

Latest study showed kids who performed best on cognitive studies as children were those born to light to moderate drinkers. Most likely cohort to drink light to moderate while pregnant? College educated women. It's socioeconomic. Light to moderate drinking has no impact on baby but does mean your mom is most likely upper middle class and has access to good healthcare, nutrition, etc.

OP, just don't. If you are not an alcoholic (which would be another ball of wax), you can survive 9 months without alcohol! So unless you're having some spare children, don't risk it, it's not worth it.

Wow, shaming OP for drinking *a tiny amount of alcohol that has never been shown to harm anyone* but then referring to alcohol as "mommy juice". Just...

Hmm... calling alcohol mommy juice is problematic. Are you sure you don’t have a dependency issue? I don’t get the moms who chug alcohol every day to cope with parenting. I find that irresponsible. The moms having the occasional glass of alcohol while pregnant sound much more responsible to me. For what it’s worth I don’t drink any alcohol but the occasional drinker is clearly more responsible than the mom who is addicted to alcohol every day.

Half glass of white wine spritzer or champagne maybe three times in third trimester.

Oh yea! DCUM is so smart! 'Light' to 'Moderate' drinking is GOOD for the baby! Bottoms Up!!!

Lol thought this too. I enjoy a glass of wine as much as the next person but there are a lot of alcoholics on this board who don’t know they’re alcoholics. There may be nuances in the literature, but the vast vast majority say pregnant women should avoid alcohol, period. If that thought is daunting to you, you have a dependency issue.

There definitely is evidence to suggest even 1 drink/day is harmful: https://depts.washington.edu/fasdpn/pdfs/astley-oster2013.pdf.

+1

No one who has defined their drinking on this thread is saying they drink one drink a day. This is more like, a glass of wine occasionally at a dinner out or a wedding and occasionally having a sip of their spouses drink.

No!

No, absolutely not. We don't know what the safe amount is, and I'm not such a lush I couldn't give it up for 9 months to give my child a good start in life and make sure they weren't born with fetal alcohol syndrome. I don't understand you people who are so desperate for a glass of wine during pregnancy.

Can I have Kahlua in it?

No, I already feel sick enough being pregnant without adding alcohol to the mix
