MD parents: You're going to want to do everything you can to keep your kid's spot

Our federal daycare in downtown DC just told us that we’ve had 100+ additions to the waitlist in recent weeks. Despite that we have no clear date on reopening, partial or otherwise. We will remain open because we have a federal agency support (ie, no rent required).

But I can imagine a ton of private daycare facilities will go out of business. If you still have a spot, do NOT give it up.

Daycares are cutting current families to meet the distancing rules. Very few are letting kids off waitlists.

No doubt that is true for some, but I have heard of at least two centers in MoCo with open spots available, including for infants, as they are reopening. Lots of families are not sending their children back right now.

Ironically, infants may be easier because they can operate at full room capacity even with number of people restrictions. It’s the older rooms that would have too many people. Plus, more people may be hesitant to send younger kids than before.

We attend a center with multiple locations in moco and there is no sharing spots even with class size limits because only about 30 percent of kids are attending.

The return rate seems to vary widely. At some centers, families are being cut, but in others waitlist families are getting in.

Any chance this is Shoe? We pulled our kid so don’t receive those emails, but I am genuinely curious how it is shaking out.

We pulled our infant from daycare but are second guessing the decision. Would you mind telling us which daycares you heard of that have spots?

Goddard School Rockville sent out an e-mail a couple of days ago advertising infant and toddler spots.
