We had several a cappella groups at my college in the 90s. At least one of those had been around since the 1940s.

Very common at top schools in the Northeast.

I was at UVA in late 90s - a cappella was definitely a thing!

Wait, a capella groups were really popular when I was in college in the late 80s/90s. Does that mean there was a time when they stopped being popular? Did they come back because of pitch perfect, or are a capella groups no longer a thing in college? *sad*

I think that a capella groups are somewhat newer to big state universities. They have always been a thing at elite privates and UVA, which likes to act like a private.

not that new, there was an a capella group at Tech in the 1980’s.

She is very honest about her anxiety and depression issues. Their kids are like 11 and 14 and are in far fewer videos now, although the 11yr old apparently has started his own private YouTube channel so it appeals to him.

That's too bad she's dealing with anxiety and depression. I wonder if the "performance" life contributes to that. Seems like it would...always having to come up with a new, cute video.

I like them but I worry that writing a book about how to argue effectively means they are now jinxed and will get divorced. It seems like the people who put themselves forward as a relationship example are more likely to get divorced.

Most of their videos are enjoyable. I like watching them with my kid.

I like them. They’re cute together. I can imagine that Penn can be a bit much at times and that probably adds to her anxiety. But I see that they like each other and have fun together and that is important. Frankly, I think that they should take a break for a bit and do something else for a while. I can imagine that the last two years have been a lot for them and required them to put in extra time/effort.

Im listening to their book now - and while I agree with you (see: every couple that has done a "vow renewal" on a Bravo reality show then promptly divorce) they have a lot of off the cuff audio on the book as well - and they seem really self aware of each other and their needs.

I actually find the wife's openness about her anxiety and depression relatable - they are not trying to present a "perfect family" front in the book

She references it plenty in those videos so I think its possible but it also might be cathartic to not carry it as a secret.

I think they also reference that they co-own or work for a media company so they do content and stuff outside their own channels, makes sense as a career given their backgrounds

Why do they need to be hated? They put out videos and content like millions of others. There's so much content out there, that everyone can watch or not watch- just like before the internet. You would watch what you want on TV, buy the album of someone or not, go to this show or that show. Or none!

Why take them personally as if their work affects you? I don't get it. If you don't like their songs, their style, or whatever, then so what?

100% agree!! People are always finding something to complain about.

Occasionally I'll watch one of their videos. The one "We're Gen X, not Boomers" was funny. I appreciate how creative they are, but their style can be grating. I live in a modest NYC apartment, so it's pretty much impossible to empathize with those who feel trapped riding out this pandemic in a big home with a yard.
