And I came here to share Fallon (girl). I’m like felon? Talon? Fallopian tube? This is not a first name and anything it’s misheard as shouldn’t be a name either.

Probably her mom’s maiden name (like Jimmy Fallon). I went to HS with a girl named Birch. Her parents were not hippies. Super conservative Southerners who uses Mom’s Maiden Name.

There was some 80s TV show where the gorgeous main character was Fallon. Maybe it was on Dallas?

I think it was Dynasty. The same show that Joan Collins (Alexis) was on.

I'm a new poster, but I teach ESOL and have had a few students with this name. They have been from countries in Africa.

Eunick--pronounced as "Unique". I remember thinking that every substitute teacher taking attendance will pronounce it as eunuch. Poor kid.

I’ve had two students named Barack. Both too old to be named after Obama. Also one was born in Israel.

West African women often give names that reflect the pregnancies.

I thought hispanic women did too, like doloros?

Err, no , that would be Dolores. Sadness, pain, tears.

But mainly, Latino women love 80s names like Jason and Jennifer. My high school is full of them. And I love them for it, because it makes me re-live the days in college with Jason and Jennifer, etc.

Depends on the country. Sometimes the spelling gives away the country.

If we're talking about Salvadoran women, they love names like Emely/Stephany/Melany with the y. They also love Erick for boys (with the K).

Dominicans love Jhonny (with the h after the J) and Brayan (with the extra a) for boys.

Exxum sounds like a purulent discharge symptomatic of some disease. As in, "You'll need to keep applying the Lotrimin 3 times a day until you haven't seen any exxum on the bandages for 72 hours. And don't leave the house."

Haha!!

And Dolores is for the Virgin Mary. I have an aunt Dolores.

How on earth does a name like Emily make it onto the same list as Cherith?

Believe it or not!

Yup, believe it or not, Cherith and Emily are a nuisance.

This is an actual thing that often leads to unfortunate results. I have an acquaintance from Georgia with cousins named Coates (woman) and Wages (Man).

One of my best friends is a Nancy (early 30's) and she is one of the most lovely, kind, FUNNY people I know. I love it!
