Superbowl halftime - scantily dressed women and very covered up men

That has been happening for generation and generation in strip clubs. I don't particularly think it is all that empowering. It that is what others want for their daughters - great. Teach them to take their clothes off and pole dance and shake their bodies and simulate sex for men's enjoyment. We don't look to strip clubs as our model for female empowerment.

As someone said we don't teach boys to take off their clothes and use their bodies for women's enjoyment.

My two cents: point to another country that would exclusively feature bilingual singers/bilingual show at such a national event. You can’t. Despite everything, we are a melting pot.

Kids are dumb. Explain to them that it’s extremely hard to sing live and dance while entertaining a crowd.

Pink can sing and dance.

I’d rather hear singers sing. They can be surrounded by dancers if they like. Same impact.

Agree. She is awesome.

Well she tries.

This. I love love love Pink, but she can’t dance live either of these women of these women. It ain’t even close.

I'll take Pink over either one of these women any time.

Look at what she is f'ing wearing.

The hypocrisy is insane.

We’re not talking about outfits.

The comment relates to lip syncing. I mentioned Pink because she famously does not lip sync even when she’s doing her aerial stunts. So, good singers can avoid lip syncing.

JLo has never been known as a good singer. She’s a dancer who was given a music contract and saved by computer technology. I thought Shakira could really sing though?

No, it’s an example of having self dignity.

Hold up! How is what she is wearing and doing any different?! She is barely covered.

Pink doesn’t lip sync...even when she’s suspended upside down...because she is a real singer.

She doesn’t lip sing bc she isn’t dancing and running around. She isn’t high energy.

Oh FFS.

I dunno. I loved the show. My 8yo daughter watched it—she’s a gymnast who can shimmy to the top of a rope, so she had some idea how physically difficult it is to do what JLo did.

I truly think this thread reflects some WW pearl clutching at JLo’s performance. I think they are disturbed by a curvy non-white woman gyrating, tbh. I thought overall it was great. And great that my brown daughter 1st gen daughter could see this performance by Latinas as representative of the future America, a multicultural America.

Wow racist much?

New poster here - I'm a POC and I don't think gyrating your booty has anything at all to do with race. Every single race that has ever existed rewards women for gyrating in public as long as these women aren't "my wife" or "my daughter." Interesting how that works, isn't it.

It seems that for many here, entertainment needs to be hyper-sexual and political.

You’ve obviously never actually been to a Pink concert. She lip syncs as well. She sings on top of the track during costume/set changes. No shade, it’s completely understandable and accepted. FACTS.

I’ve been to three Pink concerts and she was phenomenal!

I loved it. Go team Shakira and JLo. Wr have the right to be sexy as fu6k, and super fit, in our 40s and 50s.

And it seems you like your entertainment similar to a crossword puzzle. To each their own.

Overall the show was fine - good even. Entertaining. Loved Shakira. JLo would have been great if she had just toned down the sex. Shakira just did the sexy thing in a more classy way. Plus she had a little skirt. It seemed like showing off the body was JLo’s top priority.

Ultimate halftime show:

Barbara Streisand with Bette Midler

Who’s with me?

The performance was artistically weak. No creative concept. Just sex. Really the artists and their team are capable of more. They could have truly moved the needle forward for women in an industry of hypersexuality and age discrimination. Instead, they chose the low road. Choreographically, they are geniuses and did not unleash any real worthwhile stuff. I was hoping for a new iconic piece (think Rythmnation). Nope, just direct camera shot to JLo's a$$.

Gaga did it.
