I found them to be quite similar, though I know not all schools of one category or the other are all the same. |
That is the myth, not the reality. |
No, it doesn't. That is also a myth. |
Are they closer to traditional teaching methods of grammar, math, reading or more progressive any method goes, whatever.?. |
Why do you think it's a myth? Schools don't care about first choice letters? |
A fundamental element of Quaker values is simplicity. Charging such high tuition rates is the opposite. |
A fundamental element of operating an Independent school is financial resources. Having none eliminates the institution. |
Then (a) operate on a smaller budget or (b) drop the claim to Quaker values or (c) do neither and be a hypocrite. Sidwell chooses (c). |
That is a pretty fatalistic world view. If you don't like the school, don't go there. Do you have the same complaint for Penn Charter ($38,500) Germantown Friends ($38,450) Friends Select ($38,650) Friends Central ($38,250) Sandy Springs ($34,250) or the NY Seminary ($51,000 without lunch)? |
Yes, same complaint. |
Sorry, but Sidwell does not give much of a boost to Quaker students. |
They are both heavily based on the teachings of the bible. Quakerism was founded by George Fox and his wife Margaret Fell. Their teachings are strong throughout the Society of Friends. The Catholics have their own traditions. In both Quaker and Catholic you will get a heavy dose of the bible and christian teachings. |
| Is she white? That may help. |
Historically the leaders then would be "read out of meeting." They should call themselves an independent school and not a Quaker school. |
A fundamental element of Quaker values is practicality and simplicity. A school would not be in operation if it could not pay it's bills. Quakers do value simplicity but they have been strong businessmen since the founding of our country. |
