Of course you'd show up. You always show up! |
| If all this is true, then why are more white people moving into my neighborhood in MoCo, displacing the Hispanic renters? |
where is this? |
No.. it's high because lots of people with lots of money are moving there or getting rich there and buying up homes. And because the job market there is pretty hot, and so it drives up housing costs. I lived in CA for 40 years, both NorCal and SoCal. I think you don't know what you are talking about. Same for places like NYC and DC are expensive of progressive policies. Wherever there are lots of educated people with high paying jobs the area turns blue. So, what you are saying is that places like WV and NE are not progressive and that's why its cheap to live there? Well, you are partly correct... very conservative areas don't attract the highly educated or the high paying jobs. That's why housing costs in such places tend to be cheap. Do you honestly not see that link? |
| OP, what you think as incredibly liberal is pretty central. You're just becoming an extremist. |
|
When NIH began, many of the researchers and physicians were Jewish who settled in the surrounding suburbs. This attracted other Jews to the area because of synagogues, religious schools, and shops. They tend to be liberal.
Maryland is also a traditionally Catholic statement (having been named after the Blessed Virgin Mary) and has some ongoing Catholic liberalism. |
If global warming is true, then why was it cold where I am today? |
At the corner of Make Believe Ave and Fantasyland St. That’s where. |
Very simple. I can live in DMV and pay less taxes than I do in MC. DC and VA are both cheaper overall. You actually want to create reasonable incentives for rich to live, retire and die in MC. The opposite is the case now. Not only do the rich pay more in income taxes (70% as noted above), but the rich also spend more and our economy is highly dependent on consumption. Keep the rich here, keep their taxes here, and keep their spending here. Yes, MC entire reputation of good governance and good schools has been depended on the taxes paid by the top 10%. If a sizable portion of that top 10% leave, MC is screwed. |
Well, my public school education taught me that the correct word is "implying," not "inferring." |
In other words, only the liberal elites can afford the liberal bastions of socialism, and the middle-class is being driven out? |
No, you do. I don't. There is a long list of things I want to do, and that's not on it. |
When did "elites" come to mean "those people who support policies I dislike"? |
| Takoma Park in particular has long been known as a center for activism and liberalism since the late 1960s--"The People's Republic of Takoma Park." In teh late 1970s/early 1980s, that really took off with the folk festival, rent control, Nuclear-free zone status, etc under mayor Sammie Abbott, a Marxist. |
| The Maryland side also has more academics--UMD, but you also have to consider NIH. |
