That’s your opinion 4 months in? Lol

How hard is it to size up a coach?

Jeez. Some might say a lifetime. But I understand parents don’t have that luxury. It depends on the person looking at them, and obviously depends on the coach.

A lifetime?!?

How long to you spend to pick a lawyer, doctor or any professional? I regard coaches as professionals but you cannot seriously contend that you need a “lifetime” to evaluate whether coaches are doing a good job.

Most parents have no idea how to evaluate coaches, and most great coaches are irrelevant for 99% of talent. I can tell you that without spending any time looking at any of them. On the lawyer and doctor question, clients don’t spend years evaluating them, but their peers certainly know that you need to look at a body of work across cases and matters for years to rate people accurately, and peer evaluations and recommendations are actually a big influence on client selection of professionals, so yes, their body of work matters a great deal even if people don’t need to spend a lot of time actually understanding that. And the relationship itself is not really one where you can exit easily after entering it for a particular matter. People are very flip about soccer coaches and very stupid at the same time. So don’t waste time on this, and don’t think for one second you have a good idea of how good a coach is based on observation over a few months and one youth team. That is utter nonsense. Might be good or bad for your kid but that is probably not the question of whether a coach is top notch.

You sound slightly unhinged. Most of their coaches have not been coaching for years- this is quite clear. The technical director is well qualified. I think the coaches underneath him in many case are bad. The administration of the club as been admitted disaster but you forgive this to some extent in the first year.

Coaches are not going to get a good result w kids who are not invested. Most of these young guys are not. Thanks for the lecture!

You are 600 miles away. Why do we care about your soccer club experience?

Go away.

?!? Please see subject line for the thread. If you don’t want to read about what is literally the subject of the thread, maybe you should go away. But thanks for the sophisticated commentary.

Just because it is in the subject line doesn't mean that it can be properly discussed. How the hell does anyone here know how a soccer program in Tennessee is running? And why would we care?

Maybe you should not care. Why don’t you create a thread for Barca Virginia! Problem solved. There are threads on dcum for LA, NYC, SF, etc. I don’t think you should post on this subject because you say you don’t care.

It was perfectly reasonable to ask a question about how Barca Nova has gone as a way of getting a gauge on the new Academy in Tenn. But honestly, after they are set up and running there is nothing that anyone here can discuss knowingly about the Tenn academy. So it is a dumb thread moving forward from that standpoint.

Perhaps create your own Tennessee based forum and talk with people in your region about your regional soccer programs.

Happy with this thread thank you. If you think I am abusing it, perhaps you can complain to the site admin.

I'm saying the thread is stupid at this point not abusive. Continue to bash a club 600 miles away for anyone here cares. Sorry you are not liking your experience. Tough break. I can't begin to recommend a club for you to look into this coming spring because you are 600 miles away.

There are no soccer threads on DCUM about NYC, LA or SF. This site is pretty localized. Larger soccer issues are certainly discussed and perhaps folks who have moved here or are lurking from other areas will offer opinions that are viewed through their region. But how do you expect anyone here to discuss the daily running's, the coaching staff and the talent of a soccer club 600 miles away?

"Rush" has clubs all over too but a parent with a kid who plays for Virginia Rush would have no insight into how Colorado Rush is being run.

Like I said, take your issue to the admin. Thanks

Any time. I can see it had no impact, so either listen more or don’t bother thinking about this. It is wasted time. It’s pretty clear you don’t know what you’re doing, but that doesn’t really matter if you are just another soccer parent.

Says the genius who says you must know a coach for a lifetime to reach a conclusion. Do you have any bona Fide credentials?

This guy shows utter contempt for parents and claims coaches are irrelevant to kids development and that all the same you need a lifetime to make a judgement. And again, parents are stupid.

This guy must be with Barça Virginia.

Barca nashville actually had some good coaches who had been w Virginia program

I think some people mistakenly think by the mere joining of a Barca program, their kid will magically become several levels better. The program can only take your kid as far as the kid's actual potential.

Pretty clear that idea isn’t accurate based on the lackluster performance of nearly every one of their teams. People shouldn’t be under any illusions of greatness based on that.

I think you’re conflating results for performance.
