Ray, a former federal informant and associate of Bernie Kerik, has been hit with charges tied to a cult Ray allegedly led at Sarah Lawrence college.

Ray's alleged extortion and sex trafficking was first detailed in a New York Magazine cover story.

I am the proud originator of this thread. I saw this today. I hope there is justice for the victims.

I came back to find it because of the great news about Ray! That original article about him was so disturbing; so many lives devastated by that man.

I just can’t believe this story. Are our kids so naive? Will they fall for such guy?

Can someone explain rays political connections? I didn’t understand how he got away with this for so long.

I’m not saying the parent should have been around like he was, but it’s absurd to throw around the term “cult.”

Also remember that kids in this demographic love to be victims (it’s the only way they get SJW cred) so they may not be completely reliable sources.

He coerced at least one of the victims into prostitution. That’s not just people having sex.

It's mind blowing.

I family from Dominican Republic immigrated, build successful business and gave their kids excellent education: One in Columbia, one finished Harvard, and one in this college.

After meeting this sociopath:
- The one from Harvard dropped her practice and started living with him,
- One or two of them tried to commit suicide,
- The parents paid him thousands of dollars and were forced to sell their house.
- The parents divorced due to the inflicted stress.

It's amazing how much damage one sociopath can do.

I think these are damaged kids.

Yes, many are. We’ve coddled an entire generation.

I don't know. I think there have been vulnerable people in all generations. I don't think there are any data to show that there are a greater number of people joining cults today compared to before.

Cannot believe this even happened -> So in late September 2010, at the beginning of sophomore year, when Talia told her housemates that her father was getting out of prison and needed to crash with them for a while, they were mostly unfazed.

Technically true but I expect there to be more layers of security against cults forming than a school being single-gender.

No I think we need to do more coddling at the beginning of college and then dial it back. You can't just say "Oh these kids are 18 so they're adults" and let sociopaths loose on them.

He pimped out some of the girls, fraudulently extorted hundreds of thousands of dollars from cult members for false charges of damaging his property, manipulated the ivy med school grad into dropping out of her residency program, alienated cult members from their families with outrageous lies, sexually assaulted the young man who was non consensually was dragged into group sex situations and stole the youth of all these bright young people.

You need to actually read the articles and let the horror of this jerk’s psychopathy sink in. Hope he rots in jail and those young women are deprogrammed.

Seriously. A grown man (a parent no less) MOVES IN to a dorm -- nobody says anything? There are not security guards, RAs, resident deans or anything? Or other students did not complain?

It’s NY. That’s how.

I’m not so sure this particular school’s lax oversight is that unique.

But look how fast they all clamped down these past two years.
