And to 22:56, Damn right, we're old! But our music was better.

Ugh. Steppenwolf better? No thanks.

Better then who? Kanye, Lady Gaga, BEPs? It's easy to come up with true poetry but coming up more than one word that rhymes with titties-now that's genius!!!

Did anyone quote any of those artists on this thread? It's just so tired and, well, old to say "our music was better." Have we had another band like The Beatles? No. But there is plenty of good music still out there currently if you know where to look (especially music that is better than cliched "Magic Carpet Ride" -- which has its strengths, yes, but are the lyrics really a strength?).

I agree with you about current music, but you really have to search out the good stuff(mostly alt rock). And as far as your last sentence, the thread really was about lyrics and what some people considered meaningful to them personally, which is subjective, right?

Yes, you're right that you have search out the good stuff, and you're right that lyrics are subjective.

OP here. That was my intention, or even just a lyric you like to sing. I mean, I started the thread with a lyric from a Heart song in which the singer is telling some dude he's not good looking enough to be in her bed after they've woken up the next morning. Not really great lyrics, but it's something my husband and I jokingly sing to each other in the morning when we wake up with bed head and bad breath.

Big bottoms
Big bottoms
Talk about sponge cakes
My girl's got 'em
-Spinal Tap

This is what I sing to myself since I can't lose the weight from my last pregnancy. Which was four years ago.

Yo, I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want,
So tell me what you want, what you really really want,

So tell me what you want, what you really really want,
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World

-Mad World - Tears for Fears
(Can you tell I'm a pessimist?)

Ever heard "I'm Not The Man I Used To Be" by Fine Young Cannibals? You'd love it.
