| hahahhahaha. google it. hhahahhahaha. |
Ahh yes because Dr. Google knows best.
Elementary school students don’t need to be dependent on a technological device to do their schoolwork. There’s plenty of time for that. Just use books already. |
Wait, what??? Middle school. And high school kids did not have textbooks. WTF?? I have a junior in private and a 5th in public. I had no idea. Textbooks are a must. What do they do right now? |
|
Please tell me elementary school kids can get math workbooks instead of the ten million single piece copies of incorrect worded homework
Please Jesus. I can not take it anymore! |
I have a high schooler in private and this is pretty accurate. They have laptops but use them sparingly. Textbooks are used more. In lower school, there was hardly anything. Middle school, they used iPads but still mainly textbooks. Their classes are harkness (and graded per participation and knowledge) reverse styleclassroom occasionally, discussio- based, project-based, and lecture-based. All depends on the day and where they are in the curriculum. Either way, they have average of 14 kids in class. She actually only has one class over 14 this year and that is English with 16. The other HUGE perk is no cell phones. None, Nada. They have a 10min window after lunch, outside of the dining hall to use them. |
| Wow, just stumbled on this thread. I am so glad we moved both of our kids out of MCPS before this debacle happened. Our reasons for moving had nothing to do with the academics at MCPS--in fact when we moved them, everything was fine. My DS, who attended MCPS through MS, was well prepared for his rigorous private high school experience and scored very high on the admission testing. Sad that things have fallen apart at MCPS. I feel badly for all my neighbor's children who will suffer. I guess those tuition checks are worth every penny! |
|
This is why we need textbooks:

Its still fine...everywhere but here. Didn't say fabulous but totally fine. |
You have low standards |
|
how quickly?
As quickly as they want. which seems to be S L O W, 3 years or so. Enjoy! |
| I just want to know. when they roll out the new curriculum, do they mean only K and 6th grade student? how about current student already being taught using 2.0? Will they be switched too? |
I believe it will be by school, and the entire school will be switched. This website explains everything available about the curriculum rollout right now: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/curriculum-review.aspx The timeline for implementation is under the FAQs. All schools will be getting the new science curriculum this fall. The Math and ELA curricula will be rolled out incrementally, with the goal of every ES and MS having the new curriculum for the 2020-2021 school year. |
Do you know the saying, "Fast, good, or cheap - pick two."? |
Right..we have already slammed MCPS for rolling out 2.0 too quickly. Now (for a change of pace) we need to complain about a slow roll out for 3.0. |
| FWIW, Johns Hopkins suggested in the audit that MCPS roll out the new curriculum incrementally. I suppose you could take your argument to them, but they are education experts who presumably know what they're talking about. |
