I also lived in the hideous old dorms and survived to tell the tale and I can tell you they have not changed one bit since I attended years ago. I am acutely aware of the size limitations of UVa, but I do think they should allow more in-state students and be more inclusive if they are going to claim being a public university for Virginians.

You didn't notice anything different about Bonnycastle, Kent, and Dabney?

DP. All i can tell you is that renovations that were supposed to start in spring of 2017 to Humphreys and other old dorms didn't happen because focus was shifted to the new basketball arena, or something like that. Lots of griping about it. I don't think Humphreys has been touched.

Someone already linked to a construction update page on the UVA website that shows they are doing the work in three phases. Humphreys was not part of the first phase. You can see the timeline on the page.

Why is it ranked so low in world rankings?

So reading the GPA blog, it's not saying GPA doesn't matter, it's saying that GPA doesn't provide the detail they need, so they look at the transcript.

It's not. Someone trying to stir the pot. If you really think that, then you need to go here, and watch the stats of the Indian, S. Korean and Chinese students post when they get rejected. https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-virginia/2062370-uva-class-of-2022-rd-decisions-p5.html. UVA takes students from 147 countries, which is a much wider spread than Berkeley.

Strength does not matter. More BS they feed you so your kid ruins their GPA taking 6 APs their senior year. They look at core GPA, period, then SAT and AP exam scores. You people thinking they analyze every damn class your kid takes are delusional.

Because it is poor at the subjects the world respects and has a minuscule research budget and zero Nobel graduates.

Rejected after being deferred EA. Out of State, 1550 SAT, 4.5 GPA, national and international writing awards, extremely strong everything. I've been accepted to UNC Honors, Miami U (full ride), Rutgers (almost full ride), USC Honors College (full ride), McGill (partial scholarship), U of Toronto (partial scholarship) and received a likely letter from Duke. There's really no telling with these things. I did write my common app essay about leading a protest...something tells me UVA is sick of political agitators! Not sad about UVA per say, but disappointed that I was simply rejected! I'm now 6 for 7, bummer.
