I liked the book when it was written and anything political about it went way over my head. I was like, “wow that’s so impressive.”

Poverty by America, written by Matthew Desmond?

No its written by a women, who left poverty for success and goes back and sort of does a number on her best friend who slid backwards into teen pregnancies and drug use.

PP here. I found it. Monica Potts' The Forgotten Girls (set in the Ozarks)

I actually think it was an inspiring story, if you ignore everything he’s said & done since 2017. The author went to very high poverty, low-performing rust belt schools (high school had an avg sat of 1000). He completed a 4 year stint in the marines, graduated from Ohio State in only 2 years with a double major while paying his own rent, graduates from Yale Law.

Yes, but he accomplished this because of a genetically high IQ and genetically high motivation quotient. Most people are not in the 1 %. However, I enjoyed the story, interesting how he was uncomfortable with mom constantly wanting the limelight, and doing anything for it..sound familiar?
