Breakthrough Montessori: And so it begins...

I don't trust this corporate charter. Pulling the old switcheroo/bait&switch before you even open is quite bold. But new DC families eager for Larlo to go to school "among peers" are not concerned in the least. BMCPS' leadership and Board of Directors well reflects its target student body.

How are they pulling a bait and switch? I don't see why parents should be concerned. Have you been to a community event, the entire team seems knowledgable, eager, excited, and experienced. I am not sure I understand your concern. It seems as though you may not like charters in general.

Union hack/troll.

God forbid higher-SES white people should supervise a school, they have such a history of low performance. Look at Harvard. Shameful!

The huge difference is that Harvard is a PRIVATE educational institution explicitly found by wealthy white men as a finishing school for their wealthy white sons. Breakthrough is a charter network using PUBLIC funds to educate DC's white children. Check your privilege. Not a union hack/troll, just have a refined nose to sniff out BS.

No dog and don't have an opinion whether it is a bait and switch.

But if you read their proposal it was all about bringing Montessori to poor, at risk kids that the other Montessoris don't now serve (and they took some shots at those schools). Much about locating there and having diverse leadership.

Now they are opening in already pretty gentrified Petworth with an all-white leadership team.

That's what the complaint is about.

Check you racist conspiracy theories. God this is so tired. Guess what, white parents want their white kids educated too. And white kids are the fastest growing demographic in the City. White parents would like solid, drama free schools. So would AA. its not about race. Its more about class. But I know a LOT of upper income AA and every single one of them either moved to the burbs out of DC for school or they lottery into a better school than their IB. they don't want the BS either.

+1. Thank you for stating facts.

So an all-white leadership team in a city that is 38% white is all by chance? Sure

If you had attended the community meeting with incoming parents, then you would have noticed that most of the people there were black. Just because the pop a school in Petworth, doesn't mean it will be all white.

Wow, this posting is really off topic. Back to OP's question: do any of the currently enrolled families know what happened to the old ED?

The answer given at the enrolled parent meeting was that he left Breakthrough for "family reasons."

In a couple of years, how is this school going to compare to Lee or SS? Any predictions?

I'll save my predictions until after they open! (We all should)
