Workload at Richard Montgomery IB magnet program

Anonymous
It was not the fact that the power point did not work. It was more that she just could not cope and still talk since she has been running the program for years. Maybe it wouldn't be perfect/polished but she just sent us home and told us to look for the power point on line over the next few days. She said almost nothing. Luckily the parent panel was able to chat/answer questions.

Opining without providing evidences in anonymous forum is called character assassination.

Many on the magnet threads talk about the high standards of these programs.
Isn't the goal of these high standards to get the kids to manage their time and plan ahead, and not have to go the extra mile and cram after the fact?
This is the standard I wish I saw at the IB info meeting and did see at the Blair info meeting.

I got very little information from the info meting so I did not get that impression..my main impression was that they did not know how to run an information session.

Then your DC should attend Blair.

+ 1.

I also think that RMIB population will be better served if your child goes to Blair or another HS.

Please write down what you did not like about the presentation, what could have been done better, what you wanted to hear more about, and send your feedback to Jennifer Hoover. This way, your concerns will be addressed and you will be part of a positive change.

Criticism is always welcome. Doing it constructively and tactfully is the way to go.

I am sure she is painfully aware of the fact that she did not give the presentation.

Posters remind me of people buying stuff based on TV commercials without studying it. You know, like, "As Seen on TV" products.

I don't want an "As seen on TV product" I was just hoping for enough competence to make that part of the two programs as competitive as the other parts.
I know, on average, she is better than what happened that night, I have been exposed to over 100 MCPS teachers over the years and, on average, they all are better than she was that night.
It helps that many of you have her back, but, could you give specific examples of her proactive behavior?

I and my DC got same impression at that info session. Total mess.
My child refused to apply. I had no arguments after seeing that info session...
We do not regret.

I do not care about the people who did not apply; 900 kids applied and only 100 got in! If someone did not apply and comes and post in this thread, it is very ridiculous - you are not in the league!

So, I wan to hear from the 100 who are accepted, how many of you deciding to not go to RM and is the information session truly your reason to do so. Be truthful, this is an anonymous forum. So, if you feel it is something else, spell out so that the RM magnet coordinator will understand what is going on.

After 7 years, if that is her best shot, I'm sure parents have been complaining for years. For myself, I am waiting to see what happens at the 2nd info meeting on 2/22. If she can't figure it out by herself, that says all I need to know.

Having said that, I would guess that most kids that got into both will be allow to make their own decision. Of course, they were off with their peers and did not see the majority of the problems the parents did.
