That sounds like more of a teenage / rebellion issue, where faith just happens to be the outlet.
I consider myself more of a respectful athiest now, but I imagine I was a bit of a jerk as a teenager. OK, more than a bit.

He isn't normally that disrespectful, though. He's not rebelling, we aren't religious.

I guess he needs to work on how to phrase his opinion without sounding like a jerk. He can be whatever he wants to be (Athiest, Christian.. whatever) as long as he isn't an ass about it.

to the PP with the teen, maybe gently remind him that he can structure his argument without an insulting lead to those he's discussing. "These Christians" etc.

It'll help him be a better speaker all around. But yeah, it's likely more of a jerky teen thing than a hateful thing.
