Prestige of Lawyer vs Physician

At this point, it's clear that the OP is either:

--the densest individual on the planet
OR
--a troll (and a crazy one at that)

Ok...other than my drug dealer comment (for the person using money as the gauge)....I have kept silent.

This may be the stupidest question in the history of DCUM....that is saying a lot.

First, money does not equal prestige....in fact, money is used to get people to do things they would not do....

I have cancer and heart disease. Doctors keep me alive...Lawyers want my money.

There are some honorable lawyers....think of Civil Rights lawyers, etc. But, with a few exceptions, of course doctors are more prestigious. So are teachers, scientists, etc.

The best doctors go into medicine for the good of the people....the pest lawyers go in to line there pockets.

Jonas Salk, Edward Lister, Louis Pasteur, Alexander Fleming are but a few household names that come to mind, helping save billions of lives.
Blanking on any similar lawyer names......

Ghandi, Lincoln, John Adams

sounds like some lawyer trying to justify why she wasted her last 10 years in a big law shithole.

From this lay person, when someone tells me they are a lawyer, I wonder about their character, I assume the worst. When someone tells me they are a doctor, I respect them.

I am blown out with respect for her. She actually can make a real difference--a life and death difference, and does all the time.

I'm almost 50 and so are many of my friends, so a common theme is: "I am entering into the second half of my life. I want to leave the planet a better place. (Besides raising good kids) What can I do to make difference?"

My doctor friend does not have to mull over this one.

I vote doctor.

You mean she is great at consults? ER docs don't deal with life and death. They exist to turf patients.

If you have a car wreck and are bleeding out, the ER doctor will try to save your life. You are an idiot.

No, the trauma surgeon will stop the bleeding , the anesthesiologist will obtain the airway and resuscitate, the radiologist will read the films, and the intensivist (often the surgeon or anesthesiologist) will take care of you post op.

You haven't spent much time in a hospital, have you

The ER doc will screw up all of the above before he consults the experts listed above.

Lawyers by training, yes, but not revered for their roles as lawyers.

I've seen educated fools in both professions. What has more prestige in my world is someone who has common sense.

All famous because they were lawyers right?

Their roles and education as lawyers gave them the opportunities to be political leaders.

Give it up! There have been some great lawyers. But this question has been put to bed, definitively, on DCUM. Lawyers can make a lot of money. They also have a whiff of the disreputable, the scheming, about them. Only quacks, Dr. Oz and ageless plastic surgeons who only do boob jobs have this whiff in the medical field.

The lawyers are now ready for this thread to fall off the front page.

For that to happen, you'll have to convince your egomaniac OP to shut up.
