Why weren't you expecting it to be that high? We chose it because we loved the open house and expo. The principal and director were very enthusiastic and approachable. We were impressed by the families we met. They all could describe why they loved the school and were welcoming and friendly. We were impressed with their CAS scores last year. We were extremely impressed with the class work and art at the school. We were especially impressed with the work on display from the older classes. We put it ahead of CM because of our ability to see the work being done in the upper grades. We also consider IT to be more established than CM. I know it's only 1 year older but they seemed to be a much more established school. We also like that they have a permanent location (even though we live in NW). Some of the work in the 3rd grade classroom were things I consider 5th-6th grade. The work really reflected the school's philosophy. I know all kids vary on levels but we were also impressed with the work in PS/PK/K classrooms. |
This sounds like an IT troll booster. Also, you didn't put IT ahead of CM because CM isn't in the common lottery. After results you can make that statement. |
My choices are (P4) IT Two Rivers Shepherd MV Hearst Eaton Haynes Bridges Lee Cap City We also applied to CM and LAMB. If we had house we'd choose 1-6 ahead of CM or LAMB |
| ^^PS we are at Appletree now. |
Can you get to all of those schools? Looks like a huge geographic spread. |
We live in Takoma and DH works on the hill. I can take to Shepherd, Haynes, Bridges, Eaton, LAMB, CM and Hearst. DH can do IT, MV, TR, Cap City. We were also especially impressed with Shepherd and TR, but PP specially asked about IT. If we don't get in anywhere, we will stick with Appletree another year and move IB to Shepherd or Hearst depending on the boundary announcements. |

So why didn't you include Oyster on your list? If you're going for immersion, why not go for the best and most established? |

Neighborhood school...why Janney? |
I'm not the PP, or an IT parent, but I agree with what she said. I was really impressed with the open house last year. I have several friends whose children go to IT and they have been really happy there. We ranked it 4th behind 3 schools that are logistically easier for us next year, but above the safety schools. This is for PK4. We also applied to CM and would be perfectly happy to send DD there as well, or keep her at her current school. Basically, this year the lottery is not nearly as stressful as last year, because all of our options are good. |

PK-4
Lottery--only applied to Janney PK as a sibling. Rumor at the school is that it will fill with all siblings this year--hoping we are in the top 57 that get spots. Also applied to CM and Yu Ying. |
This is so interesting to me! So even though IT is great, it is not great enough to trump the convenience of a neighborhood or the desire for Spanish immersion, correct? This helps me in my thinking as I tried to figure out what was so great about IT as I seriously considered ranking it above Hearst, which I loved. I went with my gut and ranked Hearst over IT. So for first, I ranked MV, Hearst, and then IT. |
