MCPS to study later start times

I agree with this. The only reason why we are now considering extending the day for ES is the bus logistics. That really doesn't sound fair and a good reason for a change!

And I don't know ONE ES teacher that is okay with this with just increasing their day. The union would never go for it without raising pay and the county is already too short on that as it is.

The teachers will not be working longer hours, they have the same amount. Only the start and end times will change.

Yes...the ES day will increase by 30 minutes..I don't know how that can happen with out more teacher hours. I thought I read that MoCo has the shortest ES day in the state...

They are trying to make it more recess or specials but that still increases their entire day by 30min so if they have kids in daycare, travel far etc... it makes a difference. They will have to get paid for it even if it isn't direct student time. They will also need more special teachers or para-educators to make it work. Money money money to help the babies cope with waking up so early.

By 5 minutes, as far as I can tell.

ES teachers are currently on the clock for 6 hours and 15 minutes - as compared to 6 hours and 45 minutes for MS and HS teachers.

As a HS teacher, I will gladly give the ES teachers their shorter day b/c their schedules are difficult.
