The Christians are in Assad's camp because the Islamist rebels are killing the Christians. Wouldn't you be?

Can you please explain why it is significant that the Christians are on one side or another? Many Muslims are being killed by both sides. Is there something special about Christians that make them more important?

They are being killed because they ARE Christians. That is why they support Assad. They don't love him, but the Islamist rebels are killing them and that is a fact.

Alawi Muslims are being killed because they are Alawi Muslims. Moreover, Christians supported Assad before they were being killed. But, again, why is it more important that Christians are being killed than it is that Muslims are being killed?

Christians supported Assad because he has protected them from the Islamic extremists.

It is not more important that Christians are being killed than Muslims, but it is important to me that we not support a regime that is killing the Christians. I do not support Assad either. I support neither.

In another development, Iraq announced that it is opposed to a US attack on Syria. Of course, this is not unexpected by anyone who understands the situation there, but it must be embarrassing for those who thought our actions would turn Iraq into an ally.

Any way you shake it out it is a total mess. It is a powder keg, and this could be the match-or not.

Is it also important to you that we not support a regime that is killing Muslims?

The difference is that they are killing Christians simply because they are Christian. It is Muslim killing Muslim on both sides.

You really should educate yourself on the history of Syria before you start spouting off. In any case, one could just as well argue that the Syrian muslims have been opposed to Syrian Christians because they've been supporting Assad--a guy who makes Saddam Hussein look like an amateur.
