| And I have seen the administration game parents who think they are pulling one over on them. Leading them along to keep them quiet is just one tactic I've seen them use. Trust me, they have nothing to gain by allowing your blustering co-worker/sister-in-law into the school. They have stood up to far greater than what she is trying to pull. They may sound complicit, but I would bet money that they are not. |
| I agree. No school is perfect, and certainly Yu Ying has had its growing pains, but they play by the rules. you may not like the rules, (such as waitlist ordered by time stamp) but they follow them. A lot more than most DCPS and charter schools. |

That is great to hear, it really is.
I could completely see how YY would be merely sounding complicit to keep co-worker/sister-in-law/family's pediatrician at arm's length. But has no actual plans to play with the waitlist ordering. |
| actually i don't think the school would even want to seem or sound complicit. they're usually pretty straightforward. there was a man at the open house a few weeks ago trying to make a case and i heard the principal tell him a flat-out no. |
She was a great addition to the community, too. It was a pity to see her go, but I had no idea she didn't live in DC. I wish she had moved in from MoCo so that we could have kept her, but the law is the law and I'm glad the school hews to it without reservation. |
| They did add a 3rd grader to the 2/3 class the year that class was the highest. Pretended he was a 2nd grader, I suppose. All 2nd graders who had applied were admitted, the class was still undersubscribed and a student who had studied Chinese elsewhere was granted entrance. Problem is that there are no 3rd grade admissions allowed, no other students were accepted for 3rd, no slots were advertised, no lottery was held, etc. |
Maybe they had to boot her. With all the attention she brought to herself and the school, wouldn't they be risking someone outing her as a MD resident and then indicting the school for looking the other way? |
| I think we need to stop talking about easily-identified people. Everyone has a right to privacy, whether it's a 2nd/3rd grader or a parent. Let's move on. |
I completely disagree. People need to be identified for their actions. We need more accountability and less rumor mongering on the cynical forum and I don't see anyway to get their without identities being revealed (for posters) and names named (for criticisms, remarks, investigation, etc.) |
| I agree. Put your Maryland resident kid into a highly sought after DC charter. Get kicked out and then goto another highly sought after DC charter?!? That takes balls and a serious sense of entitlement. Either the family moves to DC or they should be paying tuition. |

X 2 ! |
Don't worry. The only public DC school she was interested in is Yu Ying. She has a well-known Chinese voice and isn't interested in any school that doesn't take Chinese seriously. I've heard she's at a high-profile private, and I hope she, and her child, and the family in general are happy there. The school is lucky to have them. |
| Doesn't time stamped wait list skew wait list to the rich kids? Or at least to those families who can get it together to go in during the day so early? Seems like if they're serving the public sector of DC they might want to rethink that. |
NP. There's another school that teaches Chinese and not in a once or twice a week enrichment class for younger kids? Please share. Would love to know the school if we don't get into YY. Thanks! |
