| Gt starts in 3rd grade b/c parents ask for it. No studies show it makes a difference. |
There should be a better way to label a program for the students who are generally doing best than gifted! Its such a loaded term. |
I nominate "The Program for the Best Kids." |
|
This is D.C., you didn't know that EVERY kid is gifted and talented? Couldn't they come up with a more exaggerated name for the program? I think not! I notice that if a kid clearly is not, the parent will try to quickly cover up whatever they are not by saying they are G&T in (opposite subject here). Some really think other parents are stupid - which is the most amusing part. Just smile and nod, smile and nod

| How about mcibtycitgasbtlsolailtmc (my child is better then your child in third grade as shown by this long string of letters and I live through my child) |
Travel soccer starts in 3rd grade because parents ask for it. No studies show it makes a difference. |
But the point people are making here is, the kids who are identified as GT in third grade may be a different group from the kids who were identified in preK. |

I've been disturbed more than once by a mom who makes claims about their infant/toddler that are screaming signs to me (early childhood/el. ed. trained) of autism.
"my two year old can name every type of dinosaur (but doesn't feed himself or look anyone in the eye)" Yikes |
| Travel Soccer is a hilarious concept. Even if there were a future Beckham on every team, if the best they can hope for is a place in professional soccer in the Untied States, where the average player makes about $60K, you'd be better off sending them to "Travel mid-level management," where maybe they might crack $100K. What an utter utter waste of time. |

"My son (30 something male) was so sought after by so many women before he got married because he is so handsome and smart."
Needless to say he is divorced now. Wonder if MIL had anything to do with that |
No such thing as a gifted soccer player?? Maybe not in the US, but definitely in South America and Europe. |
| I do not care about anyone bragging about their kid. I don't get how this detracts from you or your life at all. |
New poster here. It doesn't detract from my life, but sometimes it makes me shake my head and think "really?". Example - I've have a friend that brags to me about how popular her son is, it started in preschool. Really? Another friend & her husband have bragged since birth about how big the kid's penis is. Really? WTH? The gifted or smart parents, they don't bother me. Most parents feel their kids are above average in looks and brains. It comes with the territory. |

Actually, my mom might have been guilty of the reading-related claims. I was reading by the time I entered preschool, and reading on a 12th-grade reading level by the time I was about 7, so harry potter would have been a piece of cake for me.
I haven't heard anything really awesomely delusional lately. I tend not to make crazy claims about my kid. I'm more likely to make fun of her to my friends for including "eleventeen" in her counting. |
