Kumon?

My boy literally begged me to put him in Kumon Math at the tender age of 3 1/2 years.

Now that's bloody sad! Imagine a 3 year old begging for KUMON Math. The image makes me....every adjective you can imagine.

"Please MAMA, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE send me to KUMON!!!!" What a joke.

These math exercises are done by the child and corrected by a responsible parent at home. You can replenish your supply 2 X a week, once a week or once a month depending on schedule or purchase the math workbooks at Borders or Barnes and Nobles.

It's great therapy for adults -- particularly those with early senility and dementia. How fast can you mentally compute? Can you beat a 6-year-old?

Try it you'll like it

By proclamation, I thought this ole mare drew her last breath several threads ago. You must have several geriatric lives.

Besides Kumon, are there other resources, ie web-based or other tools that folks could recommend?

8:04 That's cheating! This article is about pushing academics in preschool. I'm the PP whose child did Kumon in Grade 4. Saved his ass in math.

OP was asking about a 4 year old.

For the OP.... There is surely no one best way to educate your preschool children. For those of you with more than one kid, you know this already.

We have experience with pre-K KUMON and we think it's a great per-K program for bolstering skills and self esteem. If you have the funds and schedule to accomodate it, you may want to ask yourself what it is that you think would hurt them from this experience? They do a great job of ensuring the work meets their current skill level. My child has only had a positive experience with it.

That said, every kid is different. Maybe you should try it out for a month or so and see if your child works well with their program and the teachers. Good luck!

My son was 4 years and 3 months when I put him in Kumon. Im too broke, makes $11/hour. I promised to myself, as long as I live, I will give every available time going to park with him and checking his math worksheets. He's 5 years and 8 months now but his math is Grade 5 math reducing fractions. He started Kindergarten last September, in another 6 months, he's going to start Algebra. By Grade 1, he'll be in Linear Equation/Permutations. We only spend 20 minutes a day doing 10 pages of exercise.
