This post is laughable. Who the eff cares about "Cabinet level officers are in the current administration" and makes is a daily topic? Not I! And I'm from NE. My high school had a lot more diversity than the private school my neighbor's kid goes to! And you're right no educational opportunities, because if you live in NE how dare you leave it or god forbid attend Yale, Harvard or Dartmouth. What a joke. OPer, you must be an acquaintance of this schmuck hence you want to move so badly. Good luck and believe it or not there are some very nice people here in the city who want to lead "normal" lives and not talk politics day in and out! |
PP, what topics do you like to talk about? |
I haven't read every single response so forgive me if I'm covering old territory here, but has anybody mentioned the fat?
When I went to King's Island in Ohio I felt like a supermodel. The gross (and I mean gross) weight of the families there rivaled my Civic. Holy crap. Although I concede that Capitol Hill palace intrigue isn't more interesting than whatever is being discussed at Applebee's #5371, the central time zone is one fat place. \ |
I like DC, I just hate smug assholes who think policy talk requires any intellect at all. Keep it classy, policy dork! |
Ohio is in the Eastern time zone. |
Shh...remember, policy wonks don't want to discuss that pesky, non-policy, common-sense-style information. |
After trudging home from my government job daily for years, and witnessing first hand the crappy way "Policy" was made there, the last thing I wanted to do was discuss it. It just wasn't for me. I didn't want to be reminded of it because after working in my mixed up agency, I didn't have much faith left in our policy makers.
My husband is a musician and a physician. He is from New York. We love to visit. We love to discuss Broadway, music, science, medical stuff, odd patients he may have had (not using names) and so on. We soooo don't talk about policy. But we have so many other wonderful things to discuss! ![]() |
There is absolutely NO comparison between the NE and D.C., BTW. You need to get out more. The NE knows how to deal with snow, for one. D.C. is not big on common sense, have you noticed? It can be rather tiresome to some of us. And if one makes their money not by politics, but by other means? God forbid! And if one mentions God? Egads! We can not all be you, thankfully. The sense of entitlement just shows the frustration of most of the people in this area. The intelligent, truly accomplished ones I know are quite humble. In D.C. it automatically translates into doormat because they are truly so asocial, frustrated and just plain confused. But that would not occur to someone here. Again, the lack of common sense and lack of decent priorities are just baffling. But I would not come onto a thread where someone tells you what they don't like, then prove them right, when it is obvious your main goal in life is to argue for the hell of it. This from a lawyer who knows when to take time off. |
Part of Ohio is central. |
So D.C. to kick someone when they are down, I hear you also, OP! |
There's a reason the Real Housewives of DC was the series least watched location.... |
LOL -You mean Indiana. |
And there it is! I was waiting for that zinger. Of course, you HAVE to mention money. Predictable. |
You know, any town or city with a university is going to a well educated population group. Maybe not the same percentage as say, Bethesda (highest in the nation) but still, how many well educated people do you need (that you don't even know) surrounding you to feel good about yourself. Charlottesville, VA, for example, is a lovely town with a lot of very lovely, kind and interesting people, some of whom happen to be extremely well educated. |
I doubt it. Most of the assholes don't make a lot of money. That is why they are pissed. And if you do, you are new money. The worst kind. You can't buy manners. And boy, this board hates the new vs. old money debate because there is so little old money (and manners) here! |
