| Colgate has better name recognition. |
Among the general public it does because of D1 sports. Among those who matter they are in the same group. |
| Hamilton is a great school and does seem like it’s for the serious intellectual and not the preppy type. My niece went there so I only got a glance at graduation but it was impressive. |
Whatever the case may be, I'm glad some people consider aspects beyond U.S. News rankings. |
It’s very close. It basically is. People I know who work there live in Utica. I used to live in the area. |
The toothpaste factor |
Holy Cross does not belong in the same sentence as these schools. Move on, troll. |
| Both are old line WASP, White Anglo Saxon Protestant, institutions. Along with erosion of America’s traditional Judaic-Christian values so to has the appeal of Colgate, Hamilton, and other such institutions. The “hot” schools of today reflect our countries demographics, not its history. |
But students aren’t hanging out there on a daily basis. It’s not that close. |
I remember when my DD applied to Colby. Some of those people thought it was cheese, and become confused. |
| Agree Hamilton and Colgate have always catered to WASP families. That demographic is in a very steep decline and those 2 schools have limited appeal to a more diverse population. |
They walked away from thier social contract in the name of progress and are now paying for it. Hamilton does not pop up on the CCPs approved list of colleges. |
Unless they took the Jitney, then they could go to the bodegas. |
| Lol, Hamilton boosters are bragging about closeness of Utica to hang out in! |
A "Hamilton booster" to whom you appear to be referring "used to live in the area," and may have no connection to the school. |
