I didn't know either!! So pleasantly surprised!! |
Do you remember when your child submitted the application? |
Think like a proton — be positive! Congrats! |
I’m one of the Penn State posters. My kid had very high stats, and since the other kid applied for physics, I bet they did too. So they might be taking kids with very high test scores, or kids with very high test scores applying for quantitative majors, as a first pass. If it’s a simple SAT/GPA cut score that wouldn’t take them long. My kid applied mid-October, fwiw. |
Congratulations. My DS is waiting. He applied for the School of Education. |

Another Pitt (Dietrich) from Maryland with Honors & $15K/year merit!
Kid was accepted, then heard about Honors, and learned about Merit yesterday evening. |
| Any Pitt acceptances from Swanson School of Engineering yet? |
ditto |
Oct 28! |
My physics kid has 1530, 3.86/4.76 with 14 APs (only 1 3 for US History). I received the email acknowledgement of the application from Penn State on Oct 28. |
But, Kentucky is in the Deep South ! |
Yes, according to a Penn State admissions specialist (not sure of their actual position) on the College Confidential boards, high-stats, easy "yes" admits and lower-stats (for PSU purposes), easy "no" denials will find out first. Those with average (for Penn State) stats or lower stats with some sort of hook will find out closer to Christmas. |
Does PState send easy 'no' denials out as quickly as the easy 'yes' ones? |
DP, but one way you could respond is a simple "Congratulations!" instead of this petty nonsense. I'd love to be in a position to not need aid, but I'm not gonna snark someone who has it better just because I'm jealous. Do better. |
Are you in-state? This year website says “If you submit a complete application by November 1, you'll receive a response by January 15.” |
