I’m one of the Penn State posters. My kid had very high stats, and since the other kid applied for physics, I bet they did too. So they might be taking kids with very high test scores, or kids with very high test scores applying for quantitative majors, as a first pass. If it’s a simple SAT/GPA cut score that wouldn’t take them long. My kid applied mid-October, fwiw.

Kid was accepted, then heard about Honors, and learned about Merit yesterday evening.

Rivalries, schmivalries! That’s something to celebrate.

Not the OP, but can ya tell I’m the thread cheerleader? This particular board can get rough and I think it’s absolutely great to hear of all these successes. There are lots of terrific schools out there and I hope everyone finds a fit they are happy with and can afford. A LOT of hard work is represented here. It is NOT all about HYPSM.

My physics kid has 1530, 3.86/4.76 with 14 APs (only 1 3 for US History). I received the email acknowledgement of the application from Penn State on Oct 28.

I know a girl who went to Kentucky and seems like she had a great time. Upper middle class Montgomery county girl… at Kentucky! Love it.

But, Kentucky is in the Deep South !

Yes, according to a Penn State admissions specialist (not sure of their actual position) on the College Confidential boards, high-stats, easy "yes" admits and lower-stats (for PSU purposes), easy "no" denials will find out first. Those with average (for Penn State) stats or lower stats with some sort of hook will find out closer to Christmas.

Does PState send easy 'no' denials out as quickly as the easy 'yes' ones?

When did they apply to Chicago, when did they hear back, and with aid?

ED0, we don't need aid.

You asked.

One way to respond is: no aid

DP, but one way you could respond is a simple "Congratulations!" instead of this petty nonsense.

I'd love to be in a position to not need aid, but I'm not gonna snark someone who has it better just because I'm jealous. Do better.

Anonymous wrote:When does Indiana University start announcing their decisions? I know it is technically EA and not rolling admission, but curious as to when decisions start coming out.

My kid heard got their IU admission in mid -Nov last year.

Are you in-state? This year website says “If you submit a complete application by November 1, you'll receive a response by January 15.”
