| When is this sideshow ending? Any dates floating around on when this is ending? |
It’s just beginning. He plans to make this a national tour |
| If we just join Maryland this will all go away. We can get in state tuition. It could be better. |
He’s talking like he’s already finished the job, but the White House is also signaling that they want to extend the police intervention, so it’s hard to say. I would imagine that there are diminishing marginal political benefits for them even with the GOP base — you may look good cracking down on crime, but you won’t look so good four months into it if rates don’t stay this low. |
| This is the best! |
Probably not anytime soon. The Washington Post reported this evening on the Mayor’s praise for the crackdown and that Trump is pleased with the compliments. |
I don't mind 18 different police forces in my neighborhood. They can stay as long as they want. My kids feel safer too. |
| Dem here. I love the crackdown, but do wish more emphasis on crime, particularly juvenile crime, and less ICE. The council let the city go to hell for 7-8 years. It will take a few years of aggressive policing to get back to where we were. For god's sake, the council/mayor actually allowed the city's crime lab to lose accreditation for 4 years. That is surreal. |
| As a landlord I love the current situation. It easier to rent a condo in a safe place rather than in a dangerous one. |
I'm a captain with Washington DC Fire Department and I can tell you for sure that our violent injury calls have dropped MASSIVELY. (Shootings, stabbings, beatings, etc...) Forget if you like or hate President Trump. Above all, this is proof of one thing...that liberal politicians have absolutely let their constituents down. Their have failed policies that are only covered up by the great deal of money they receive from taxes that you pay and money that the government gives them. The vast majority of black citizens are in favor of this crackdown, because it is usually their children getting killed, or doing the killing. The irony is that those doing the protests are primarily white residents who don't feel the effects of crime. This is the absolute definition of "white privilege". You'll actually protest something that is helping the people that need it, because you simply hate the president. Your protesting theory, while poor black people suffer from reality. And things are exasperated by false claims of "he's made homelessness illegal". No he hasn't. He's made it illegal to set up camp in the city. The vast majority of those camping are doing so because they don't want to abide by the rules required for staying in shelters...don't show up drunk or at all hours of the night...no drugs...etc. Allowing people to live in tents is not love or compassion, it's throwing a blind eye. Unfortunately, white DC residents live in a bubble and actually think they are more astute politically because of their geography. The opposite is true. They don't have an economy other than government and don't feel the effects of bad policy. They are VERY privileged. I know this will upset you, but the ENTIRE country thinks this of you. Remember, you're living in a welfare state. Your jobs are at least 2 or three degrees separated from government money. Having you make political decisions is like having a welfare recipient dictate the amount of money they receive. |
Question should be who is 79% who don’t want crime under control? |
+1. The DC voters are like the elderly grandparent who had their car keys taken away from them. It’s for everyone’s safety. You can show granny all the dents and scratches on her car, but she’ll never quite grasp why she can no longer drive. |
“Those who would give up Essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” Ben Franklin Don’t be an idiot because mid-stage fascism doesn’t hurt you personally yet. |

[quote=Anonymous][quote=Anonymous]Only 17 percent want it. Of them, only 9 percent "strongly" support it. So who is this for exactly?

Stop being stupid. Everyone wants crime under control. 79% of us are against illegal takeover of our city, waste of money, and normalizing fascism. I’m surprised it’s not higher. They must’ve asked around at the wharf. |
